Had this issue. Had my output flange replaced under warranty. There is a thread in the repair, warranty, etc section. Some members have even posted their work orders. There is also a video that has the sound being made while shifting. Just make sure it's not the usually noise an automatic will make. For me it sounded like a cowbell. (Or that's how I woul describe it)

Just come to a complete stop before shifting next time.
I am sure everyone can drive auto just fine.
I sat in the garage with the brake applied and slowly moved the shifter into each gear. Half the time I get the clank sound, but not consistently. Dealer took it apart and said there's nothing wrong, even when I told him there is a solution here on the forum. They put it back together, still clanks, but as long as it isn't a safety issue I no longer care. I have 62,000 miles on the car and the transmission operates as it should.

Really? Have you folks never driven an automatic before?
Seriously.

I've read some stupid threads here, but this one takes the cake.

Totally normal, 100% standard.

It's not a bug it's a feature.. the 2 second delay is meant to give you time to reflect on your life..

My car does the same thing.. it really is normal for these cars.. these aren't fwd 100hp econo boxes, the tranny in these things are pretty beefy and have some quirks but yeah, nothing to worry about. I will note, my tranny usually only clanks on a gear change when slightly at an angle which my drive way is, otherwise it's pretty smooth and the delay I wouldn't say is "2 seconds" before it starts moving I think that's a bit exaggerated, but yeah there is a noticeable delay.

So the loud clanking noise when shifting into gear is normal too? Is that how your automatic S550 sounds?

I think the delay is there on purpose to allow people to shift into neutral when moving to rev their engine.

Every transmission, in every car I've ever owned, has made noises.

My MT82 clunks when I shift, and makes these whirring noises when I get obsessed and focus on it.

It's fine, cars make noise. People make big deals out of nothing.

Its actually a safety feature so that you dont go flying from forward to back or opposite. Make sure you meant to do that.

Cars in the late 90s I had didnt have a delay and you can imagine what happened to the transmissions with the stress of going in reverse and dropping into drive. Asking for something to snap.

Shift into reverse at 70 mph and see what happens.

Good lord! People bring cars to dealers for every single stupid problem! No wonder they are bitter and suck! (Some of them)

Just wait 2 seconds and drive.
If it fails completely, bring it in and have them fix it.
