My wife had a heated steering wheel in her $22,000 CAD Dodge Journey what was included in the heated front seat package. That's why I thought actually it would be also in the heated seat package in the PREMIUM models. I didn't think FORD wouldn't include that future in a $40,000 CAD Mustang. Our Grand Cherokee has it too. Some thinks don't match with this packages FORD makes available for us. A Fusion could be ordered with heated steering wheel. Don't know about the heated windshield.
I was thinking the same thing as well. When I ordered my 2015 Eco, my dealer told me it would probably be another 2 years so as not to give the new Mustang all the new "bells and whistles" in the first redesign year.

Heated Windshields are an option in more than 75% of cars made today.
Heated windshields or defrost? I'm not buying the 75% for a filament heated windshield at all. Maybe 25% tops for those here in the US.

Ford had a patent until quite recently on proper heated windscreens whereby there are heating filaments within the windscreen. Not even the likes of BMW had that. It means it takes no time to clear frost or ice when starting up. I hope the Mustang has it, I can't see any reason not to have it!

My daughter's Impreza , 2015, and my 2005 Legacy have heated windshields, (heat at the base)

Ford had the patent years ago, my wife's current streetka has the heated windscreen and that's 10yrs old now. I believe the patent ran out a couple of years ago and other manufacturers have jumped on this.....as said before the mini we are buying has this option selected. Just wondering why Ford would not add this to the mustang when it's only approx ÂŁ100 option and a piece of wiring loom to a switch.....

Wait... what are we talking about here? Heating filaments within the glass of the windshield is what I thought we were referring to as a "heated front windscreen"... that's what I've used in Land Rovers before. What else would you be referring to?

Sorry, I meant to say until recently.

That's what I mean by heated front windscreen but others are referring to just blasting hot air at the windscreen as heated windscreen.

the only windshields that are available:

non-acoustic / pony in 3rd visor frit
acoustic / pony in 3rd visor frit
acoustic / w/rain sensor (no pony)
What is "acoustic" windshield?? Also, they have the Ford not the Pony. I just went thru this as the glass shop ordered a new windshieldd for me from the factory.

My cheap KIA has heated windshield. Yeah, it has a button that turns on this micro filaments that create heat, just like in the back to melt ice. The car is only $16k. Funny how even some luxury brands don't have this feature.
Out of curiosity where are the filaments located in the windshield and what model? Thanks.

Here is the information for the Ford technology:

Quickclear electric windshield defroster clears your windshield of ice, snow and mist.
With the engine on, press a button to activate Quickclear
A mesh of very thin heating elements embedded between two layers of windshield glass heat up, providing rapid defogging/defrosting of the windshield
After a few minutes of operation, Quickclear shuts off
Includes heated windshield washer jets
Available on all Transit Connect Wagon models.

Many ok the Kia models have the front defrost right under the wipers where ice potentially build up... and heated steering wheel. This feature usually comes with the pricier trim levels. If u have to replace windshield, gets spensive!

They are imbedded between the layers of the windshield. They are really small lines barely visible unless you look hard. To turn them on you press a button that looks like a square with lines and it stays on for about 20 minutes and shuts off automatically. The car is a Forte Koup 2010
Thanks, I'll have to take a look at one sometime to see what it looks like. How about visibility out of the windshield? Are the lines noticeable enough to obscure vision or do they catch light and glare any? Just curious. Thanks.

No mate you don't notice them when driving at all otherwise it would never work. You can only see them when you "squint" looking at the screen and then you will see very thin jagged wires running from top to bottom.

Very cool bit of tech and because my wife's current car has it I am now used to not having to use the scrapper in the mornings.....well that was until it decided to stop working before Christmas

After scratching a couple of windshields with brand new scrapers, I won't ever use those things again. Not even with only "regular" windshields and the waiting necessary for the defroster air temperature to come up enough to melt whatever's on the outside of it.

So... How do you get ice off the windshield?
