Hey everyone, I’m running into a mess after installing long-tube headers and I’m hoping someone has seen this before. Right now I don’t have a tune, my rear O₂ sensors aren’t plugged in, and I’m just running header dumps while I wait for my mid-pipe. Whenever I do a hard pull, my car throws a bunch of warnings — Drive Mode Not Available, Traction Control, Hill Start Assist(Mind you my cars an automatic) and even the Airbag light — and it’s shifting kind of weird too, like it’s holding gears longer and hitting redline later than normal. The car still drives, but it’s clearly not happy, and I wasn’t expecting all these issues just from this setup. Has anyone else had this happen with headers installed and no tune? Did fixing it just take a tune, or did you also have to plug the rear O₂s back in?

Headers do not require a tune.

I would not run open dumps like that though, if the lambda sensor is anywhere near the opening your readings are absolutely being corrupted by outside air.

You are going into open loop with the rear O2's not hooked up. I wouldn't beat on it like that until you get that worked out.

I’m just waiting for the rest of my exhaust to come i had problems with speed engineering so they only sent me the headers but the rest of the exhaust is on its way. Do you think those codes will go away? Also my steering shaft is rubbing header and so is the top stud of the driver side motor mount how could I fix that because I keep hearing odd noises and squeaking when driving.

I’m waiting for the rest of my exhaust but do you think that’s why those codes are being thrown or because my steering shaft is rubbing?

What brand of headers are these?

That likely explains why your steering shaft rubs on the headers. It’s a tight area and the lower coat kits tend to have that issue.

you can adjust the motor mounts to get more room. The lights should go away once you add a midpipe and the downstream o2 sensors.

Pull the codes and let's go from there. Some of them certainly are, but if the shaft is hitting the headers, you are probably getting knock, but the traction control and hill assist is odd.

I cleared the motor mount and steering shaft so that doesn’t make anymore noises and fully tightened passenger side motor mount ground which seemed to get rid of hill start assist light but after hard pull but I’m still getting airbag light and service advance trac lights which go off after a few minutes I also got it scanned and it’s reading got issue with

U0452:86 (Invalid data from restraint control module)
C0051:67 (Steering angle sensor signal incorrect after event)
What could that mean considering my issues

I got these codes
U0452:86 (Invalid data from restraint control module)
C0051:67 (Steering angle sensor signal incorrect after event) hill assist seems to have turned off after tightening passenger side motor mount ground bolt I fixed the steering shaft and stud rubbing headers and there’s no more noises but still these service advance trac and airbag lights after hard pull

Did you remove the steering shaft? It sounds like you have it clocked wrong. When you put the car in reverse, do the back up camera lines seem correct?

No the reverse camera seems to be well aligned what else do you think it could be I did disconnect the steering shaft and I spun the wheel while it was disconnected and broke the clockspring but that was mainly causing steering buttons and stuff like that not working and that is now fixed after I replaced clockspring but I’m still getting this other issue after hard pull

I am stumped then. I am sorry.
