Hello everyone, this may belong in the tire section? but it is GT500 specific.

I have a stock 21 CFTP and I have been recently wondering about this. In my situation I am about 95% street. I do 1 track day maybe 2 if I'm lucky per year (live in Michigan). I am at an intermediate level. Would love to improve but that's going To take some time with only 1-2 days a year! Plus it's not really a full priority and its just fun to get out there here and there when I can.

Anyway, I'm considering switching to a PS4S for a few reasons. some of my reasoning may be accurate some may not be so that's why I am here.
From my understanding

- PS4S has better launch and straight-line grip due to its construction.
- Cup2s need to heat up in order to get maximum grip, which on the street you will not get to temperature unless it's about 90 degrees out?

-Will PS4S have better initial grip on corners on the street due to a cup2 not being up to operating temp?
- Are there any advantages to a Cup2 on the street?

Would a PS4S be a better tire on the track for an intermediate level driver? my thought would be that the PS4S may be a more forgiving tire on the track due to more controllable/predictable breakaway. I am definitely not pushing the car or cup2 to its limits. I am almost seeing the PS4S as a training tool and once that tire can be fully utilized then move up to a cup2?

Just looking to get a little more enjoyment out of the car. Does anyone think I will I actually notice if I switch (Street Driving)?
I am looking into the FP tires also to keep it stock

PS4S is a great choice for that usage. It is a very capable tire on its own, with a much broader temp range. Note they used the PS4S in the Ford performance GT500 school cars for both road course and dragstrip work.

Hi @misuracaf10
Since there is only one reply so far, I suggest you repost in the Road Course section. You will get more views and responses from all the people that track their cars.

I have some opinion and experience to offer you, but I will first wait to see if you reposted there.

I ran both on my old R and vipers. Get a set of Cup 2's for the track and if you drive a lot get a set of PS4S for the road

PS4S - good for long life, cold weather, and easier on the wallet. Overall a great tire that I switched to since I drive so much

Cup 2's - I ran Cup 2's and Cup 2R's and nothing works like they do. They cost more, don't have a very long life, and don't try to use these in the winter... I did and could barely make it onto the main road using both lanes since it just skipped. These are essentially point to shoot when turning and it is amazing and just from a feel perspective it makes everything easier and you can get more out of the car from less effort. Also, they worked for me very well in anything above maybe 40-50 temps.

Experience

PS4S - ~60k miles
Cup 2's - ~20k miles

I like to disassemble things.
95% street? Hands down, 4S. No need to go any further.
