I would be surprised if that did happen, and it turned out to be a GT350. My money is on a GT turned race car, not a GT350. I would hate for Ford to release a GT350 that can't beat a Z/28 because they built it to a rule package like the Conti series. The street version has to be a track star that betters the Z/28 performance benchmark.

We can sit in our forum all smug because our car is built to a rule package and is class legal all we want, but it won't mean didlysquat if the street version can't beat the street Z.

Honestly, I would be happy if it just came close to the z/28 but with a much lower pricetag similar to the boss. That z/28 is out of my league money :-( lol

Your post makes zero sense..

At the track = on the streets. It is just a shame that Chevy can't play by the rules.

I have tried about 20 different times to write and rewrite a post that can explain my position better, but I feel like I am only clouding my position even further. Basically I want Ford to build a street version with no regard for the competition rule package to beat the Z/28 in actual performance in the hands of owners and the magazine comparisons. If the street GT350 can not best the street Z/28 in comparison tests it will be seen as a less than successful effort, and rightfully so.

The Continental series legal car does not have to be called GT350, and can be built to meet the rules based on a street version Mustang GT. The GT is already rumored to outperform the street Boss 302 Laguna Seca so it makes perfect sense to use that car as your competition based (and legal) car.

Besides, how awesome would it be that Ford uses a regular run of the mill GT as their basis for the comp car and still hand the Z/28-R its ass in competition?

I would also add that just because the announcers said its a GT350 thats coming in September, does not mean that it is fact. They get stuff wrong all the time!

OK, you do realize that there will be THREE... GT350's, right?

GT350
GT350s
GT350r

Ok, now a normal regular ole GT w/PP will already be racing in it's own categories...
While the GT350 is another car by Ford, with probably a different engine. It is a different car... like the 2.3 EB.

The GT350 that you buy from the dealers will be on-par with Corvettes & BMW M's, & Audi RS's.. & will start north of $50k. People will also be racing these too... just in a different class/series, etc.
You may even see GT & GT350's (in different variant) all together on the same track one day...

I can't wait to see what the streetable GT350 is like... (I can't afford the $80 GT350r..).. because I am looking at either getting a BMW M2, or a version this s550..

I get what you are saying. You want The street legal, production car to beat the street legal, production z28. I think most of us agree on that. It would be awesome, though I worry about price.

In turn, you are saying the competition racer, non production, non street legal car can be built separately and strictly for competition, based on the standard GT and not the SVT offered.

Did I get that right?

Bingo! At least someone understood me!

I would also add that just because there were 3 different Boss cars is no guarantee that there will be 3 versions of the GT350.

While I would love the GT350 to compete with the Z28 in terms of performance, I do not want it to be as expensive.

I'd rather have the car be priced in the $48,000 to $58,000 range and be slightly slower than to have it in the $70,000 to $80,000 range and be faster. I also need the back seat.

If Ford offers multiple versions that cover that price and performance range so much the better.

Agree. I don't care if it is faster than the z28 because then it will be too expensive for me to buy. You can't race something you can't afford and if your favorite brand's halo car is faster than the other brand's halo car that's like saying my dad can beat up your dad.

I don't know why everyone is complaining about a $70k Shelby, look at the last GT500. To get all the goodies on that car it came in at about $70k with PP, electronics pack and whatever other packs you could buy. Yeah the car started at about $55k, but you could option it to $70k.

I think the GT350 will follow that pattern. It may come in at $60k base, but a fully loaded car with all the goodies will most likely hit $75k, and that loaded car will most likely be the version that tops the Z/28 performance wise.

Everyone wants one, thus the complaint of affordability.
