GT350 vs. Z/28

That is a very valid concern for both Ford and buyer. Do you feel the previous Boss 302/Boss 302 Laguna Seca model layout wad good as is? As in, mild to wild?

I'd like a new option, a "Carbon" type model with all the magazine bells and a rated R version.

Lots of people claim they want a stripper car, but very few will actually buy one. There is more profit in providing all the goodies to the masses than building a stripped car for a few.

I think a car only needs a heater and a radio to be livable. AC is nice but isn't necessary. Anything beyond a heater is a distraction, and I could go on for pages about how I feel on that subject, but alas this thread isn't about that.

All I will say about it is that too many people think they need to be "connected" 24/7. God forbid you miss a text, tweet or FaceBook post.

Maybe as you suggest, the GT350 can be optioned as needed. I think the Mustang has a good reputation for option depth. Get a decent entry level MSRP and let em build it how they want.

The GT350R should be purely competition focused. Keeping the SCCA rulebook in mind...

The C7 gained significant weight due to the DI and AFM features of the LT1. There was something like 50 lbs between the change from aluminum to steel for the torque tube, exhaust valves, variable valve timing and other stuff. Overall the vette lost 100 lbs of structure but gained 200 lbs of features, to end up about 100 lbs heavier overall than the C6. I'm sure the new Camaro will have a lighter structure, but I'm not sure the overall car will end up much less (assuming it gets the LT1). If it does get that engine it will get a very good power boost and mpg boost that the Mustang didn't.

Given how good the current 1LE is, I am certain the new Camaro will be quite good as well. I'm not sure it will be as good as the Mustang though, which just seems to be coming together really well.

This ↑↑↑ . FATT makes pretty much the same points I would, save the one about A/C that I now need for reasons involving susceptibility to heat stress. But then again, deciding to check the 'A/C' box at ordering time or rejecting the odd car on the lot without A/C shouldn't be beyond the thought process of any buyer who's qualified to be driving in the first place.

If Ford is unwilling to start everything from the stripper state and work up, then deleting-for-credit from a mildly equipped state would work. Chances are you wouldn't get as much credit for the delete as you'd have to pay for it as an extra-cost add-on, but in the sense that you'd be getting the car the way you want it instead of being more heavily loaded like most other people seem to want ought to be worth something.

The problem with so many features is that they seem to all have to go through some computer. Meaning when some feature I actually use goes Tango Uniform, I'm probably not going to be able to fix it myself.

The dual-zone HVAC mentioned above being one such item - just this morning I got an email (I say with impeccable timing) . . . it's even for a Ford vehicle.

Customer Concern:
The passenger temperature control is inoperative. There is a code B2267 in the Dual Automatic Temperature Control (DATC) module.

It goes on to describe a voltage test and some mechanical fixes, but there is no mention of diagnosing the DATC module itself. Anybody who's ever had a S197 Smart Junction Box problem won't ever assume that the computer can't be the problem.

Back in the '80's at an AFB in Germany we used to routinely get equipment back from our flight line compatriots with a condition tag that read Tango Uniform. Not very descriptive, but short and to the point. Eventually, writing that descriptive phrase got to be too much work for them, so they would just draw a pair of boobs pointing up on the condition tag for failed equipment. Always made me laugh.

Just as Grand Am slipped on the Boss 302 announcement in 2010, CTSCC has slipped on the GT350.

Appearently, the GT350 will make its debut in September. They did actually say "GT350"...

Again, Ford appears to be prepping a CTSCC car first and homologating that entry with a Jan 15 release.

Ford must offer the GT350 to the public, at least 30 days before the 1st race. A waiver can be applied for...

As with the z28R... Chevy developed the z28 first, then tested the z28R 5 days before Daytona, on a homologation waiver.

What kind of BS is that???
