GT350 vs Camaro 1LE

GM says it competes with the PP Mustang GT, but does it really? Its far more expensive, includes more bits, and aimed at a different market.

The GT PP imo should be re-labeled the "brembo package" and offered on all GTs. A new performance package on top of that would include actual stiff springs, stiff shocks, bushing upgrades, etc. for a meaningful increase in handling. Heck people have even said the aftermarket Ford Performance suspension kit is better than the PP suspension in *ride quality*.

Yet, in this case the base GT350 covers that market already, and has a better engine, suspension, areodynamics, etc over any GT. With the Camaro being massively expensive now, its not even that far off in price vs a V8 camaro.

You know, I think you may be on to something. I would expect something like this to occur whenever the refresh hits.

I have owned a 1994 1LE, my father had a 99 SS 1LE and currently has a '15 1LE.

The 2017 1LE, I think, will be quicker than the GT350 track pack....probably not the R but a lot has to do with tires on the R.

That being said, there is a lot to say about the Shelby name and the limited production that goes along with it.

My 94 was 1 of 135 cars built, my dad's 99 was 1 of 7. The new cars...who knows 1 of 5000?

I am not completely sold on this direct injection stuff. I think the engines are going to have the same issues that VW/BMW/Audi have fought for years on carbon build up. Personally I just don't want to deal with it.

If you are concerned about being 'top dog' on track and have to have the fastest rated car...then you will probably jump ship.

One thing to remember is the 5th gen 1le was a bargain for what you got. The wheels and tires would be a $4000 upgrade alone. I can see this option being $5,500-$6,500.

This is what I've been waiting for. 1LE at discount or GT350 at MSRP. (Hopefully)

The 1LE will not be 40K...electronic differentials? Upgraded brakes over the already massively expensive brake upgrade on the available options list, coolers, new seats, and Mag Ride. That's not $2700 worth of hardware. My guess is $46,995 out the door if 1LE is the only check box you choose.

I think when you look at the parts, your price makes sense. I just don't think GM would increase the price THAT much.

No it didn't. Also, I think the Voodoo commands more respect than being compared to SUCH an old engine like the LS7. That being said, the fact the LS7 is SO great that it is still relevant today does command a great deal of respect though.

Who gives a crap about HP/Liter anyway? All that matters is how an engine performs.

Consider your first paragraph in a different light . . . in stock configuration (meaning that they both have to satisfy emissions and some sort of fuel usage requirement), the Voodoo makes more HP than the LS7 does, and it does so with only 6 cylinders worth of the LS7's displacement.

Most forms of racing have displacement limits, and the industry may be forced to head there with its street-driven cars, given emissions and mpg requirements.

Exactly! It produced the 1LE which is supposed to be the competitor to the GTPP, even though it kicks the s^%$ out of it in every performance metric known to man! A car that will most certainly hang with if not beat a GT350TP and likely at no less than $15K savings.

Come on man, what is really important here? You want to be brand loyal to a fault, go for it. But I can be just as fast for way less because I owe no car manufacturer ANYTHING except the asking price on my next purchase.

AHHH, okay now I understand your point, and it is a very valid one. I misunderstood, but thanks for explaining it to me.

Out of curiosity, what did you think about the 1M? I only ask because it was a parts bin car, and I found it to be amazing.

All I have to say is I doubt anyone will be paying more then MSRP for any new Camaro. Also I haven't seen any Porsche loyal guys drooling over the new Camaros. Yes the car is impressive on paper but doesn't get people excited like the GT350 and that's why it was crowned Best Drivers Car.

When people are paying 50k over MSRP for any Camaro, future ZL1 or not, I'll eat my words.

New 1LE looks good so far. I personally feel it won't replace the GT350 but a good start for Chevy Maybe the next Z/28 will be more of a contender.
