How did you determine 'better quality'.

More stringent dimensional inspection

More precise machining tolerances

tighter controls on any heat treatment processes

heat lot control of the material

higher shear strength than the factory material

higher material quality

So that means Gorilla beats Fords quality and design requirements ... making the Gorilla product superior.
Yes, ALL of the above . . . .
The most significant issue I have with the factory lug nuts is the sheet metal jacket on the nut. That indicates the OEM lug nuts were made for looks as a priority over performance. Just a carry over from a lesser car design.

Ive got the Ozmo Ti lugs on my R and run the appropriate anti-seize for Ti. The observed torque spec only reduces to 135 to reach an actual 150 per factory. Anti-Seize can vary of course. But it was not as drastic as one may think.
I also have a set of Ozmo Ti lug nuts waiting for install with my Forgelines for track days. After reading this thread I'm concerned about strenght. Will they be able to hold up to extra forces endured on the track vs more beefy OEM?

Also, which anti-seize did you use to install them?

Thanks!

OK I went ahead and researched on Ti lug nuts...

Wheel nut material comparison:

Grade 5 Alloy Steel:
Yield Strength: 92,000psi
Ultimate Tensile Strength: 120,000psi
Shear Strength: 72,000psi
Density: .284 lb/in3

7075 Aluminum:
Yield Strength: 73,000psi
Ultimate Tensile Strength: 83,000psi
Shear Strength: 48,000psi
Density: .102 lb/in3

Grade 5 6AL-4V Titanium:
Yield Strength: 128,000psi
Ultimate Tensile Strength: 138,000psi
Shear Strength: 79,800psi
Density: .160 lb/in3

So they should hold up to track duty.

Hey Louis, would you have a part # for those Ozmo's lug nuts you bought ?

Also, it'd be interested to know where you got them .

thx

The OEM lugs are heavy. That's about all. They've a tendency to mushroom and deform on top of the fact that they're gaudy looking and unnecessarily heavy.

Once I installed my Ti lugs, I put reference marks on the lug and stud to track and easily identify any movement. 2 track days and they didn't budge a single micron.

Ozmo recommends Permatex 77124 Nickel Anti-Seize, so that's what I used.

I like to disassemble things.
What is the Rockwell hardness number for those lugs? I'm just curious if it is higher than that of the studs.

Ozmo's website lists the material as:

Grade 5 6AL-4V Titanium

I searched for a hardness rating for this material and found 360 BHN.

Thank you RustedAngel for the info and picture. Will go with the Permatex Anti-Seize.

I see a Rockwell C of 36 in Grade 5 annealed. Under "biocompatibility" yes, but still of note..

It also has poor surface wear properties and tends to seize when in sliding contact with itself and other metals. Surface treatments such as nitriding and oxidizing can improve the surface wear properties.

It's right at 2.5lbs saved for the whole set vs. stock acorns. Since it's weight saved at the hub, I've not really noticed a difference. Since I'm moving over to a Forgeline set however, I'm happy to save weight where I can since I won't have the carbon wheels any longer.
