The Challenger most will cross shop will be the Scat Pack R/T.
485hp/475tq with either a M6 or A8. With a $100 TreadLightly membership you can get it for invoice minus 1%..Roughly $37,000 for the 6M or $37,500 for the Auto. Both will obliterate a GT in a straight line and will not go down without a fight in turns with a non PP GT.
My post was in response to this post which quoted 37k for a Scat Pack R/T, which will be 5.7 liters and have 433 hp. I understand there will also be a scat pack edition of the srt with the larger hemi and more hp. I'm assuming the price will be 55+ for the srt version of the stage 3 scat pack.

My dealer has 5 of the 6.4 cars, loaded they are comparable to a loaded GT Premium. Prices of their cars are from $42,185 to $47,185 with option differences. And that's with a $5k ADM now that I look at it. So, loaded up they are really $42k or so MSRP.

My dealer has 5 of the 6.4 cars, loaded they are just a little bit more than a loaded GT Premium at $47k. Prices of their cars range from $42,180 to $47,185 with option differences.
Again the post i was responding to was re the RT Scat package 3, Which had less hp than the poster stated. I understand that the SRT8 has a big hemi and tons of hp. But, that has NOTHING to do with any of my posts.

The SRT8 is a solid performer and an awesome boulevard cruiser. It's weight keeps it from being much if any faster than the 2011-2015 GT.. It also isn't exactly a nimble dancer in the twisties. That said the new interior is very nice and the back seat is way more comfy than the mustang.

Today I called HB Dodge and asked about ordering a HELLCAT. I was told that I needed to give them a 10k deposit and the price would be MSRP + $20,000.00. Zoinks!!!!

Okay, the Scat Pack car I was talking about isn't really an SRT, it just has the motor. I don't follow Dodge enough to know about the packages on the 5.x liter car as it was never interesting. :)

For me there are many choices. I do not look strictly at new cars, but also the used market for what is in the same price range. Right now I am leaning towards a used Cayman S which can be had for low $40s. Its still remains as one of the few cars I have ever driven on track that I told myself I had to get when I parked it. I have driven LOTS of things on track from lowly Miatas to a 458, and the Cayman still gets my attention.

Also, shopping used can sometimes be the better choice than new. If you get a "certified" used car, which most manufacturers have a used program, you often get a better or longer warranty. Interest rates are comparable to new, and someone else has taken the depreciation hit.

So if we open the market to include used you can have a plethora of cars: BMW M3, Cayman, Audi S or R, Corvette, etc etc…

If you are a performance enthusiast you can widen your choices. I am a Mustang fan and will always look at them first, but I am always open to other makes if the price is right and the car rewards my heart when I drive it.

You sound like your situation is similar to mine, the GT is pretty much the max I am willing to spend. The one I built comes out to $34,500 MSRP. If you are only comparing NEW cars, I honestly don't think you can do better than the 15' mustang GT.

If you compare USED cars, then I think its debatable. I am finding very lightly used corvettes now that summer is gone with under 15k miles for pretty much exactly same price or less than the 15' mustang GT. Practically brand new and the big depreciation hit is already gone. Its really tempting.

I'm not sure why Mustang nor BMW forums aren't talking about the updated ats-v. It's coming soon, and I think it could be a real contender. Hopefully, I bet, if they make it a tad lighter and fix the manual transmission all while improving handling and steering beyond the quite good 2014 characteristics, that it just might steal the show!
The ATS-V is going to be a beast. I have an inside line on information on it and from what I've heard it's posting serious numbers. It's going to be priced cadillac stupid, however. Plan on 55k or more for starters. Nicely equipped 60k...Decked out 65k.

I'm paying $42,500 for my Mustang, before taxes and fees. For that, I could buy (using just MSRP numbers, and limiting it to cars I'd actually want to drive)...

BMW 228
BMW 328
BMW 428
MB CLA250
MB C250
Audi S3
Lexus IS350
Infiniti Q50
Hyundai Genesis
Cadillac ATS 3.6 Sedan

Of those, the Lexus and Cadillac are strong contenders that I thought long and hard about before going with the Mustang, and the S3 is one that reviews didn't come out for until after I put in my order for a Mustang, and has forced me to really consider whether I want to keep my order in place or switch to the Audi.
Pretty good list. I have thought about most of those myself, with the ATS near the top of the list, but just out of my $40K budget. The real choices in my budget would be the 228i, the CLA 250 and the S3. Just seems to me the Mustang GT is far and away more car than any of those.

But the S3 is just so ugly. Inside and out, and that's saying a lot, because I love Audi's. The only thing going for that car is the one thing Audi/VW always seems to get right, the steering wheel.

My favorite Audi, besides the R8 obviously lol, is the S5 when it was first introduced with the V8

But nowadays, Audi doesn't do it for me. Still like the Golf's though, they are a car that truly fits me. Just tired of FWD, the turbo, and German expenses. As for sedan's though, I really like the new Merc's. I like them a lot and if I were choosing luxury over performance, that's what i'd buy.

However if I were choosing something based on performance and performance alone. Like Fattboss, I would get the Cayman S. I haven't driven one yet, but have seen them in action. Everything I've read and seen tells me I would absolutely love this car. If I weren't limited by funds, I'd own one already.
