I would wait for the 2016 Camaro to draw a comparison. If it loses some weight, adds power and improves its interior it may be the car to get.

Doesn't the Challenger weigh 600lbs more..?
No, I just looked it up and they are listed to be about 4150 curb weight, so about 300lbs to 350lbs more.

Challenger will be a mid to low 12's car with driver mod. Ive sat in a 15 and was impressed with the interior.

As much as everyone would like for it to lose weight.. I doubt it.. I say Higher HP and more features is a better recipe for success at this day in age..The Rising Generation won't care as much about weight.. As long as it's fast and looks nice..

It's obvious because if you look at the used Camaro SS.. Check the tires Sizes and most are just the 1/2 SS with 3.45s Technology is the name of the game this generation.

The Challenger most will cross shop will be the Scat Pack R/T.
485hp/475tq with either a M6 or A8. With a $100 TreadLightly membership you can get it for invoice minus 1%..Roughly $37,000 for the 6M or $37,500 for the Auto. Both will obliterate a GT in a straight line and will not go down without a fight in turns with a non PP GT.
Has 50 more hp, but weighs about 350lbs more. Will probably be quicker in a straight line, but I doubt any obliterating will be occurring. We will see, I guess.

And 75 more tq lower in the RPM.

I have seen an A5 392 Challenger run 12.4 @114..I suspect the A8 with launch control will be considerably quicker.

Don't see your point. Nobody is denying a Challenger is a great drag car... we were laughing at your handling comment..

Now, given your forum handle... we get strait line is your thing. But who keeps a car stock for that purpose? So who cares about stock 1/4 mile times..? They are just indicators. $500 bucks later (either car), & that 1/4 number has changed...

Most here are talking about refinement and what ELSE comes with those 0-60 times.. what does the car feel like in your hand, is it in control... etc..

Comparing the 5.0 to German cars is really not possible at all I own a 2014 S5 3.0 supercharged with 7speed DSG. Comparing it against the 5.0 stock vs stock the mustang will win anytime anywhere! The only advantage you got with audi or the golf R is the awd system, you get the jump but soon the mustang will start leaving you in dust pulling cars ahead!. Even if you think of upgrading your Audi/VW be ready to burn a hole in your wallet! A tune with pulley kit will be around 2000+USD, long tubes for the 3.0 is around 2500usd FMIC with extra options around 2000usd, catback around 2500-3500 usd +, you'll end up spending around 10,000usd before you really have a fast Audi! But invest your money in a mustang and you'll have a car that will still kill any audi on the road!

Do not presume you know anything about me.

A lot of people do race stock, or nearly stock, cars in drag racing.

And what I said about the Challenger was that a Scat Pack R/T wouldn't go down "without a fight". I never said the Challenger would best a GT, just saying that the upper trim levels of the Challenger are not entirely terrible in handling. Corner carver? No. Death trap? No.

I'm cross shopping, not on price, but what will be the most fun for the buck. The cars I'm considering as a possible replacement for my Boss are the Porsche 911, Jag F-Type, Mazda MX-5 and the Mustang.
I'm in a similar position. It's going to be a great time next year shopping for a nimble, fun car with so many new options on the table. The 911 is out of my range (did love my father's vintage 911 though) but look at the list of sub-$70k (CDN) cars to test out!:

new MX-5 - gorgeous! (I'd want the PRHT version)
new Golf 7 R - getting rave reviews in Europe
upcoming M2 - BMW insiders are saying it's better than the storied 1M
S3
upcoming Focus RS - awd, 350hp, coming to NA
possible upgraded BRZ with better power and handling
C7 (might be a bit too much for my needs)

I'm paying $42,500 for my Mustang, before taxes and fees. For that, I could buy (using just MSRP numbers, and limiting it to cars I'd actually want to drive)...

BMW 228
BMW 328
BMW 428
MB CLA250
MB C250
Audi S3
Lexus IS350
Infiniti Q50
Hyundai Genesis
Cadillac ATS 3.6 Sedan

Of those, the Lexus and Cadillac are strong contenders that I thought long and hard about before going with the Mustang, and the S3 is one that reviews didn't come out for until after I put in my order for a Mustang, and has forced me to really consider whether I want to keep my order in place or switch to the Audi.

I looked at a lot of the same vehicles and came to the conclusion that none of them were as close to the best overall as the Mustang is. Most of them had some things better and some things worse (interior -vs- power, for example) and none were as well-rounded as the Mustang is in Premium trim.

I'm not sure why Mustang nor BMW forums aren't talking about the updated ats-v. It's coming soon, and I think it could be a real contender. Hopefully, I bet, if they make it a tad lighter and fix the manual transmission all while improving handling and steering beyond the quite good 2014 characteristics, that it just might steal the show!

TOP SPEED seems to say that scat pack stage 3 will have 433 hp and 457 # of torque. IF this is accurate then the car will be significantly slower than the 2015 gt given it's weight penalty. This package (again according to the artical below) will cost 5k over and above a stock challenger. I haven't run the numbers, (so I could be wrong) but it seems a nicely equiped challenger costs pretty close to what a similarly equiped mustang goes for. It will clearly be a nice car and a viable option for those who want a large more highway bomber car.

The 2015 Scat Pack Challenger from the factory is a 6.4L SRT engine that produces 485 horsepower at 6000 rpm and 475 lb-ft at 4200 rpm.

Still too heavy and floaty though.
