It might mess up the aero dynamic of the car plus ton of bug and potentially getting debris and rocks damaging the radiator or other part of the front side of the engine!

For what OP is doing, Its too small of a hole for any rocks or debris to do any damage.

Here you go...

Opened 7 more holes with dremmel tool.
Left the four down untouched, so water do not flow in.

There's a filter so no bugs or big debris is going to get into the engine; that's why there's a filter.

The filter will certainly need to be changed more often though as more fine dust etc is going to get in now.

I'm considering doing what Duttch did and drop in a k&n filter. Did you notice any difference Duttch?

I did this this morning, I have a JLT. Before I was seeing between 3-4 degrees difference between ambient at 60mph, today it was between 2-3, so I would say that it did help.

I did this as well a couple weeks ago, just couldn't find the thread....

Now I'm hitting temps as low as a two degree difference, which in FL is pretty good.

IAT while driving arent an issue. It's when you come to a stop that temps rise fast. Id be curious to know if the Roush heat extractor would help with this as the intake seals around one of the extractors. Or if there is a better way to insulate the filter from the heat of the engine.

I'll be doing this soon when I get my Airaid CAI, anyone know if the Boxed version has an average lower temperature or does the plastic box not make a difference?

Moving, I average 4-5 degrees difference between IAT and ambient temperatures with the airaid. And my filter is just as clean as it was the day I installed.

To anyone doing this, if you have a nice soldering iron they typically come with a hot knife attachment. It cuts through plastic like butter and leaves really clean lines!
