So there I was, minding my own business, clipping down the freeway when all of a sudden a bolt maybe 3 inches long, thick as your thumb appears in my field of vision, flying, spinning, hurling towards me. Like the log in Final destination it's flying towards me and there is nothing I can do. It hits my front end, I cringe and both my son and I feel a tear run down our faces. That was Friday and this was the damage.

So today my insurance says its $720 to fix and I should have my money in my account tomorrow. I love USAA!! Took some pics today and it's a done deal.
So the question is what to do? I would love a GT hood cause you know, vents are cool but A: finding one and B: finding a Ruby Red one so I think that's out of the question. So I'm thinking, paint less dent repair, I get the factory three stage paint and fix that part myself. I'm assuming it won't be perfect so I'm thinking I need something to cover it. I thought about a bug deflector but I can't seem to find any pics of them on the car so I'm not sure on that, I like the option as it both covers the repair and protects from more (I hope). A bra on just the hood? Very 90's but will for sure cover it. Some stripes? Wrap the hood and roof? Just not sure but I would like to do this and have a couple three hundred left over for a mesh grill as the bolt could have gone through my condenser just as easily since I have a grill delete.
Forgive the wall of text but what would you do?

Yep the white is actually the metal. Your plan is is my rough plan at the moment too as it's the cheapest, leaving more money for mods!! My first thought was a fiberglass hood but after paint it's waaaay over budget.

Clear fingernail polish or close color match to keep the paint from pealing then a bra for it and put rest of money into viable mods after all it is a Eco and you can do some nice mods to it if your going to keep it but if you plan on selling it then I would fix the hood to the best of YOUR ability to get the most out of it when traded in or sold, put what's left over in a rainy day fund.

Agreed. That would drive me insane esp the location. Get it done properly at a shop.

That's a serious bummer, but I totally appreciated your narrative of how it happened, sounds like you at least have some sense of humor about it.

It'll be good as new

Well no sense being all dramatic about it right? I drive about 500 miles a week so it's gonna get chipped and such, I'm sure I can get it fairly good.....

We're always referring to final destination moments too, that's why I thought it was extra funny.

"OMG, that sod is going to blow off that truck and Final Destination us!!"

I wouldn't sweat the future. Get it fixed or go with the hood of your choice, but I wouldn't mess with a bra or special grille. You will never get hit with a bolt again, and very likely never with an object of that size and destructive capability. Carry on with your car looking like it should. This was a lightning strike.

Also, those angles look a bit sharp, even for the magic of PDR.
