Got a free Cai, should I install it?

I got a free S&b intake from a guy who put a blower on his mustang. The intake has around 1k miles of use. He even threw in his old MAF sensor. It's been sitting in my garage for a year now. So the question is should I even bother installing it? I heard I could pick up some HP. Right now I have a AFE drop in filter on the stock intake. Picture is the intake I received.

It’s debatable how much HP you pick up without a tune. The S550 stock intakes are pretty good right off the shelf. The CAI is a little prettier to look at, so if you want to make under the hood look a little better I’d say install it. From a power perspective, you’ll get more if paired with a tune.

I never heard of S & B so I went to their website and it looks like the CAI is a JLT? Don’t know what that’s all about.

They are the same company, believe the new branding in JLT now

Give it a shot. Worse case scenario you don’t like it and throw the OEM one back on.

S&B used to supply the filters for JLT. A few years ago they bought out JLT intakes. Jay Tucker (The original owner of JLT) spun off the oil catch can side of the business into a new business venture called J&L OSC. S&B kept the JLT name for intakes.

S&B has been around for a long time. I have one on my old 7.3 Superduty. They are good quality. The issue is, if it will give you enough/any juice for the squeeze? It was free and the installation isn't bad so no real money there. The 2019 stock intake is very good but there is a little room for improvement. The issue will be whether you need a tune for drivability or is it a "no-tune required' version.

It's a no tune required intake. I'm guessing I'll probably gain 3-5hp up top and maybe some better acceleration at WOT. Probably why alot of people say it's not worth the $$ but for free it's probably worth it. Just tryna think of a way to partiality remove the sound tube incase I put it back to stock

Went ahead and put it on. Not too bad for free lol. Now I gotta wait 2 months to drive it due to winter
