Good option for those in CA?

I forgot about that damn welded cat. There's no way these will be CARB exempt due to that. If somehow it skates by, maybe the smog shop wouldn't be able to tell what you did...but that's a risk. Or weld up the flange so it bolts on like the passenger side, and looks the same.

the instructions that BBK has on this item require flanges to be welded onto both cats.

In that case, it's definitely not worth the effort and cash. Long tubes are the only option, or get cat delete pipes.

I have an ngauge and tune coming. gonna see if it works with MMR then if it doesn't, take it to the range and fill it with holes. if it doesn't work, ill stick with stock airbox until something else comes along. I have a feeling we will see a lot of new product releases mid November.

Friends don't let friends buy MMR. Take it off, and charge it to the game.

Instead of filling it with holes, put some tannerite in it before you shoot at it.

Just a random thought, why not just do cat deletes and when it's time for inspection re-install them just long enough for inspection then put the cat delete pipes back on?

Be very careful.

Even with a CA EO number, cat replacement is tricky. On a new car, they can require you to prove that the original cats were damaged or defective; you don't have the right to simply change out the cats even for legal cats. Love California!

He's not replacing cats...but it would be a modification to the emissions system if they want to get technical, because you cut off the cat, welded on a flange to it, and bolted it back up.

They get technical. A missing sticker on a CAI will fail you. I think the suggestion up the board to just do cat deletes and swap them back on for the test is maybe better advice.

volume. too much attention then having to deal with a state ref if found to not have cats. would rather fly under the radar.

You can make the cat deleted a true bolt on system once on. Just have to weld a flange onto the factory cat that you cut off

You cannot modify the oem smog equipment, period. Meaning, I can't cut the cat off the manifold and weld a flange and still pass smog.

At that point, I have modified the oem smog equipment.

Even when you swap the cats back in, they have been modified and will be an instant visual fail.

Sadly...
