In the Mustang, I change oil every 5K miles. In my F150, Gen 1 Coyote, I have always used the oil life monitor, but I have always reset it to 80%, not 100%. I'm usually alerted between 8K and 11K miles. The truck just turned 225K miles.

This.

Only real way to tell how long you can go.
If you take the sample when you drain the oil, it tells you how long you could have gone if conditions remained the same.

The monitor factors in activity and conditions that shorten oil life. Those can change all the time. Rather than blindly changing oil at x miles with potentially much life left or possibly past when it should have been changed due to the conditions, I use the monitor. BUT for a little extra safety margin, I use full synthetic which means the monitor reads pessimistic since it assume an oil with a shorter life span is being used.

My vote - go by the factory monitor since it's part of the vehicles system that (as others have stated) factors in variables.

Dealer stickers are either older stock, or it encourages you to come in more frequently to give them money and/or so they can inspect your car for potential issues (legit or not).

I always do around 3k miles with full synthetic (I have blower on the engine). Could I go 5-7k, absolutely, but it encourages me to get under the car and look for potential maintenance issues (suspension, leaks, brakes, etc.). Part of the full maintenance/up keep approach.

Do what you're comfortable with (peace of mind and wallet-wise) šŸ™‚

Every 3000 miles is a relic from the 60s and 70s when oil wasn't very good and tolerances weren't very good. It irritates me that oil change facilities still print out the sticker with a 3000 mile interval, knowing full well all modern day car manuals recommend larger intervals. They want people to come back and spend more money than necessary.

With full synthetic I usually change every ~6,000 miles. I haven't yet learned to trust the oil monitors but getting there, slowly, I think.

When my dad died this year, I sold his car to a dealer. Didn't have the heart to sell it to some poor soul since the oil hadn't been changed since early 2019. I figured most car dealers wouldn't notice a little extra negative karma from selling it. Sticker was still on the windshield when the dealer bought it.

I just drop mine off at the dealer every 5k miles or 1 year whatever comes first for an oil change. Here the dealer is cheaper than the quick oil change places and bonus I get to check out the Mustangs on the lots while I'm waiting with my free doughnuts lol

I use liqui moly in my car and my Hog. I use 6K in both. Black stone says my air cooled engine could go 5K more on the same oil.

I go by the car monitor tells me. I do this for all my cars and have not have any problems. Why wouldnā€™t you trust the monitor of the car? You think those engineers donā€™t do any testing before they set up this?

My car has 5000 miles on it and itā€™s on its fourth batch of oil. It had an oil change at 300 miles for the roush p2 install and then once every 6 months after that. Itā€™s a year old :)

Got to remember that you are playing with 10qts of oilā€¦ 2.5 gallons! Twice the amount engines of this size once had. With that being said, I go by the monitor which is usually around 10k miles and run full synthetic oil.

Mobil 1, 10,000 mile intervals on all my cars for the last 20 years. No issues with any of them, up to and including 165k on one of them.

These guys saying 1 year or 5k. I'm assuming your cars don't get 5k miles a year?
