Okay so I’m hitting a bit of a wall trying to teach myself how to figure this out. I think I’ve read as many posts as possible on this subject and googled 500000x.

what are the track focused guys using for gauge display while on track via obd? But at the same time getting a GoPro and several devices to record video with data overlays?

I have an mpvi2+ and that works great for data overlays and multiple video feeds. But doesn’t connect to other apps for displaying gauges on the sync display.

I also have a obdlinkmx+ that works well for gauge display on sync with the help of a stand alone android device.

as far as I’ve read - you cannot use an obd splitter and connect 2 devices. So is there a better standalone device or something that can do it all relatively hassle-free?

Just use 2 phones? :)

What gauges are you monitoring when driving?

2 phones sounds good but then you try to share the OBD data… not gonna happen from my understanding. I would love to be told otherwise though because I feel like this shouldn’t be this difficult to achieve.

in terms of gauges I had Torque Pro with just basic stuff however - adding in warnings for temps, tire pressure etc. I wouldn’t necessarily be staring at my screen but you can set up that app to flash the gauge or chime when a temp limit has been reached so I can baby a lap or two. Or set an alert for reaching the tire pressure you want.

By sharing, do you mean having OBD data overlayed in videos? I'm not aware of a device that can do everything you want it to do - record videos, control gopros, capture and overlay OBD telemetry and show live gauges with alerts at the same time, especially on sync display.

I stumbled over this at about 3am and dug a little deeper. I must have read the top of line product page previous and assumed everything was for aftermarket ecus.

looks like the smaller products would be more than enough for what I need. And in theory - should be able to use an android phone as a display which in turn I can force sync to show. Keeps clutter and extra mounts etc away from the window!

Did you hardwire it or just use OBD cable? Any advantages to hard wiring?

Oh yea definitely hardwire. Our cars transmit the info fast enough via OBD. It works with Android, iOS or Pi. I have the base model so the 4" small screen. I was thinking about getting the popular Dynavin head unit which is Android based to use it for this very reason but decided to just use an ipad mini instead.

yea the iPad makes total sense in your case! I would do the same. Since the sync is there already I might as well use it. Wish CarPlay wasn’t so tough to get around screen sharing on. But I can deal with android for that

ahh yea I see what you mean now by using Android. That should work then. Im so used to the capabilities of CarPlay that I forgot there is an android interface as well. For what you need, I think the RaceCapture system will be great. You can get in touch with Autosport Labs just to make sure

i love carplay and use iPhone 24/7 but the newer devices can't be jailbroken to display anything you want on carplay. Android can still be tinkered with in that regard. I am deff going to get a racecapture system. It checks all of the boxes

If it helps at all, I've had good success with Track Addicts (free download), a Go Pro, and a bluetooth OBD reader.
Sounds like you're going above and beyond that though.

that’s what I used before. Just looking for a bit more than that. That setup works pretty well though
