Forgive me. I am not so clever that I can't understand what your game plan is. can you explain it clearly?

So it sounds like trying to make x-plan happen and get close to invoice is best. Anyone have experience in x-plan here? I've heard the mustang club of America is the place to go to make that happen.
Hello All, also a long-time lurker, first time poster. I have similar concerns and have been wondering if dealers can charge a premium over the MSRP if you order the car from them? I remember when I attempted to order my 2005 GT, the dealer didn't seem to tack on any extra fees over MSRP. I ended up having to cancel the order a few days later unfortunately so I don't know how that transaction would have ended. So the question is, if you special order the stang will/can dealers charge a premium or will they only potentially charge a premium on their other non-special ordered cars?

I have an '05 Ranger Edge and view the 50th and year #1 as being all the reason needed to feel good about grabbing a 2015 despite future upgrades and color choices. It'll be cool to have two vehicles that are 10 years apart, and knowing that I have the 50th anniversary car will easily help me get over all of the future upgrades.

When you place your order, make sure to get your agreed-upon price in writing so that there are no surprises. I made the deal for my car and put $2,500 down and simply paid the rest when the car arrived 8 weeks later.

The cost of the insurance may be your biggest headache and monthly cost the price prohibitively... but whether you stay in or get out there will be plenty of discounts including the excellent USAA available to you.

I'm remembering how things went when the 2005 Mustang came out. Nobody got discounts on that car until the end of the 2006 model year. You could get MSRP, but not discounts. This is not a Corvette with a limited customer base. This is a Mustang that costs less and will draw more customers by virtue of that.
I know plenty of people who got discounts on the '05 when it first came out. I was one of them. I got mine for invoice price plus an additional $500 perk discount. I ordered it in November '04 so there was still plenty of hipe over it being a redesigned car.

So I went and spoke with a rep at my local Ford dealer, Frontier Ford. I told him I had interest in special ordering the 2015 when it comes out, and he told me to just come back in August. Isn't the car supposed to be on the lots at that time, and wouldn't it be possible to pre-order sooner? One good thing is they do accept X-Plan :)

Yes. He's just too lazy to take your order. He'd rather sell you one off the lot. I'd either talk to another salesman or find another dealership.

05/13/2014 - 2015MY Mustang - Order Bank Opens (this is what you would call pre-orders)
06/12/2014 - 2015MY Mustang - Scheduling Begins (Start assigning VIN's and build dates)
08/11/2014 - 2015MY Mustang - Job #1 Date (Start building cars)

Yeah I emailed a dealer in my area last week and have yet to receive any response. I have emailed them twice and no response. It just doesn't make sense. I understand trying to retire this months sales goals, but why not go ahead and get a sure thing lined up for a future month just by sending a few emails? I fully expect to pay MSRP for this car and I told him I want a GT. They probably just killed a sale. I will want to stay informed once my order is placed and I don't want to feel like I'm a pest when I ask for an update every 3 or 4 weeks. Anybody have a recommendation for a good dealer/contact in the Kansas City area?

Wait until May. For the average salesman, this is way too early to be contacting them. Most of them don't like dealing with car enthusiasts. We know too much and salesmen just want the sale to be as simple as possible.

Typically, the dealer wants to sell you something off their floor/lot.

If you order a car, it doesn't take up space, or sit on their lot, so the car has little cost to the dealer. But, there is no price difference if you order, or buy off lot. But.. that Dealer might personally offer a discount to take a car out of their inventory, otherwise you can just order one.

They can't charge you more, because you are ordering one... they just are not going to discount or work a deal. If you get A-plan, it best to order and get what you want.

I went to two dealers in my area. The first one wouldn't commit before knowing what their allocation would be. The second one I went to is smaller than the first one and the salesman was quite open with being willing to work with me regardless of their initial allocation. I was also able to get them to agree to X-plan. However, I started my conversation bluntly saying that I wanted a 2015 GT, and the first dealership that agrees to sell to me at x-plan is getting my business.
