Full length header test

Coming from LS cars, coyotes and their exhausts pretty much all sound like shit to me. The more I look, and the more I listen, it seems to be related to the 4"-5" tips that many mfgs put on their exhausts to fill the bumper cutouts.

I notice the stock mufflers are dual 2.5-3" exits and this sounds crunchy and gloriois, like an LS car with similar size exits. This sounds so good to me, much better than the cars with huge diesel sized tips.

I had a 2013 GT, and I know what you mean. The GT500 mufflers and Corsa sports are the only mufflers I like on the Coyote and Roadrunner engines. I love the idea of the engine over the LSX, but I was very picky about the sound.

That's not the case so far with the Voodoo. They're sounding awesome to me in every exhaust combo that I'm hearing.

Sounds awesome and angry. I believe it's going to be blowing up the dB. meters if u track it!

What if anything did u have to do with tuning when u removed the cats? Does it throw any lights on the dash or error codes?

I still have the stock active mufflers on it. It sounds near stock in normal mode. The Sport mode sounds like all out war. In the videos I never went over 4500 rpm. In all the videos it was in sport mode. I have not done any tuning yet and no lights are on. I have a Lund flex fuel tune but have not installed it. I'll install it after my dyno pulls at Watson. I already have a base line dyno pull bone stock on 93 octane. The only mods I have on right now are the ARH headers. Off road X pipes. I only have 170 miles on the car.

That's probably not enough mileage to trigger the O2 sensor codes. They will definitely come.

I'm a mechanic. I can take care of that with my snap on versus scan tool lol. I'll shut off the rear O2's

You can also install the J-shaped Vibrant O2 defoulers on the rear O2 sensors. Even if you turn them off, you won't pass an OBD scan for emissions if your area requires that. It will show the codes for the rear O2 sensors as "not ready". It will keep the CEL from coming on, the ECU will be happy, but you won't be able to get a sticker. I went through this in the Dallas area with my GT. I finally had my tuner turn the rear O2s back on and installed those huge defoulers on the rear sensors. Finally, the drive cycle tests all completed and showed green. I passed my inspection at long last.

On my next go around, I'm installing cats. Even if I can get around inspections, the raw fuel stench all over the inside of my car and on my clothes isn't worth ~10hp and a little more noise to me anymore. I guess I'm getting old.

Lol. Because I had a red car in front of me and a stop sign. If the roads were drier and no traffic, I would of went to the next road over and taken it up to 8200.

When I do the dyno pulls I'll record them.

We don't have smog testing here, and I don't think I have room for the defoulers. I'll check into that and snap a pic. I also have a set of cats for this set up. I know it's early, but honestly I haven't noticed a smell yet. I had it running in my garage the first day, the major smell was the oil burning off the new pipes. And when I took the car for the test drive I didn't notice any bad smells. But then again I was to excited. And maybe my sense of smell is off from being a mechanic all my life lol. I'll see if anyone else notices. I'm sure it's gonna have a raunchy smell though. I can fix that with some Sunoco or vp race fuel lol.

It's def louder. I'm probably just getting old but I don't like the "always raspy" sound of cars with no cats and no resonators any more. I'm including my own car in this - I have a Boss motor with LTs, catless and it's just too much most of the time. That and it smells. There's a GT around here with this same setup - we live in a more densly populated area so it seems way too loud.

I think with performance cats these days, you'd lose relatively nothing HP-wise.

I understand your point. But that's the nice feature of the active mufflers. Being able to switch between normal and sport mode. I have not noticed any smell but I also have a set of cats if I wish to use them. :cheers:

No cat smell is larger dictated by richness of tune. The richer it is the more you smell. Ive run catless almost 30 years on my fun cars. Ive never smelled it so obnoxiously intoxicating as some of you have described. Very rarely have i ever gotten a whiff from inside the car which was a very light smell, and the few times i have was at a light with the windows down. I could go sit on the ground behind the car and even then it was so faint.

When my tune was at 1 lambda at idle and low load, and I could still smell it inside the car when I got in it the next morning, I don't see how the richness of the tune had anything to do with that. The only thing that made it decent to me was switching it to E85. I've run catless cars all my life, and I used to not care, but I'm just getting to the point that I do.
