It will be hard to net good results when polishing/compounding by hand. Go on Amazon and key in Porter Cable buffer... They have a dual action polisher on sales right now for 120.00. You will not burn your paint with a D/A Polisher. Watch some videos online. I recommend Ultimate compound by Meguiar's. It works great.

first off check out chemical guys, adam's, and junkman's youtube videos to learn all this mess.

2nd off http://www.chemicalguys.com/TORQ22D_Random_Orbital_Polisher_Kit_9_items_p/buf502x.htm or http://www.chemicalguys.com/TORQ_10FX_Random_Orbital_Polisher_Kit_9_items_p/buf_501x.htm <--- my next detail gear I'm buying

or http://www.chemicalguys.com/Porter_Cable_Complete_Detailing_Kit_p/buf_209.htm

all 3 are great entry level polishers that you will literally have to be a moron to screw something up.

adam's has their variants. it's all on amazon too...and you can buy it all separately.

just watch those videos on those channels because you want to start out light when polishing with the right pad... not necessary to go hardcore into using the strongest polish, just depends on the app and condition of the paint.

but seriously the videos on those channels will teach you SOOOOO much. You'll become detailing obsessed! The results though will be so amazing you'll hate yourself for not doing this your entire life so far haha.

have fun most of all and be patient and don't press so dang gum hard and you'll be good!

both do the same exact thing. the biggest difference is the power and way you can adjust the speed. either way if you don't bare down hard you won't burn it.
