Some of you may remember my original full detail thread for my black 2015 GT: http://www.mustang6g.com/forums/showthread.php?t=19194

This time it's my 2017 Ruby Red GT

Car was delivered yesterday (7/6/2016) and I spent about 5 hours yesterday evening giving it the treatment on the exterior. As before I specifically asked that they not wash or "detail" my car - which they honored.

Different products this time I went with my old friend Zaino.

Process:
Wash - Chemical Guys Bug and Tar wash
Clay Bar
Zaino Z2 with ZFX
Zaino Z-CS
Zaino Z-8

Here are some before (as delivered) and after detail shots.

Looks great, I did my full zaino-ing today. The second i finished it thunderstomed. Womp.

The good thing is the zaino really lasts a long time, the bad news is the first time of the season takes a long ass time. Too bad it shines up so nice and shows how much orange peel there is compared to my old mustang.

I clayed
washed
Zaino Z2 with ZFX
Zaino Z-6
Zaino Z-8

So Sly, Do you prefer the Zaino or CG stuff or is it about the same?

This is a good question and the short answer is "it depends on your goals". Right now my goal is durability because it's really hot in central Texas and I don't want to detail every week or two in the heat.

Any high quality product will look good, and I've used lots of good products over the years. By and large the final outcome is about the prep.

Beyond that the key is to decide what your priorities are. Warmth/color? Durability (long lasting)? Layering? Gloss?

P21S - this is an extremely glossy warm wax - reapply monthly

Chemical Guys Black Wax
- The less metal flake in the black the better this looks. I can tell you the longevity isn't great if the car sits outside (my 2014 Grand Cherokee was the test bed) - Re-apply 3 to 5 weeks

Chemical Guys Pete's 53
- warm soft wet look - Re-apply 4 to 6 weeks

Zaino Z2PRO
- With 2 layers the durability on this is very very hard to beat outside of a product like Ceramic Pro coatings that will cost much much more. It won't add any warmth because it's very very clear, but it does add lots of shine and layers for depth. Re-apply 4 to 6 months

EDIT:
I will say that I'm sure everyone who details at the advanced hobbyist level or higher has preferences. So far mine is still Zaino due to overall ease of use, durability, and consistency. I've tried lots of products and so far for me Zaino is still my preferred setup.

Looks like i should stick with zaino, I had decent luck with it lasting through NY winters if i do a real good detailing at the end of the winter. I also want some depth added to the metallic guard and these thin paint jobs

This spring through was brutal, I coudnt touch the car for a month bc of heavy pollen (like wash it all off and its covered again by days end) and when i finally did its first full detail I was only able to get a single layer on it, then there was a huge amount of tree sap coming down.

This past week it finally all stopped so i reclayed all surfaces that were facing up to get the sap off, rewaxed everthing twice (it sun showered in the middle of my first application so it was really 3 times since the first application kind of rinsed off) quick detailed with z-6 and then went over it all with z-8 extremo detailer. The best part is the second i finished it thunderstormed throughout the night :headbonk: I will say today when i walked out to my car was one of the first times i think the gloss overrode the orange peeling and it looked "smooth."

I do have other questions, I used the zaino tire and plastic black and it works well bc it doesnt sling or get overly glossy. But i notice if it rains it is a bit oily to begin with and it will slick down and leave a residue on the windows. Any Suggestions on other products?

Also windows? inside i just keep them clean but outside i havent found anything better than rain-x. It lasts a long time while keeping that "youtube video new hydrophobic super coating" sheetign effect.

Feel free to PM me as well if you dont want to derail your work anymore.

I don't mind answering anything I can in the thread - you never know it might help others as well!

Tires - honestly I started using Meguiars Hot Shine years ago and I just love it. It's shiny but not too shiny, it never slings, and it doesn't do "weird" things. You do have to learn to control your spray (I use the aerosol cans) or use a blocking cardboard to keep it off your just detailed paintwork, but other than that I just really like it.

For black plastics really I don't do much. Maybe an occaisional use of Aerospace 303 protectant which has great UV protection properties. I really don't "dress" my non-painted plastic trim/rubber window trim.

So on windows since I have tint (new one gets it tomorrow) only water is used inside - nothing else. On the outside the Zaino glass polish is good for if you start seeing uneven places, rain spots, marring etc but for regular cleaning I just use Windex. Sometimes if I'm feeling like the water isn't flying off enough or starts "sticky sheeting" (I made that term up!) - I'll do a coat of Rain-X. You really can't go wrong with Rain-X but make sure the glass is clean first.

Looks great brother!
I am a big fan of Zaino. Been using the stuff for years and years. Awesome products that last a long time without using much at all. How can you go wrong? I use it exclusively on the '13 GHIG Roush Stage 3.
(The truck has the Cquartz Finest as it's the daily driver.)

That's one of those when I see them in a parking lot on those rare occasions I smile and say to myself, "I'm not the only one." I saw an S197 in blue (I'm guessing Kona blue) a couple of months ago, and that thing was glowing! Always makes me happy.

Every time I see ruby red I wish I'd picked it over magnetic, but I think we have the two best factory colors imo, looks awesome man!

Not to sham the other colors, any mustang is a sexy mustang ;p
