Hey everyone,

Just trying to gauge whether or not others running full stage 3 Cobb parts with the Cobb off the shelf stage 3 tune have similar results. I know altitude and weather and all that impacts this but just generalizing overall.

For those not familiar with the stage 3 parts:

- Cobb cold air intake
- Cobb catted downpipe
- Cobb turboback exhaust
- Cobb FMIC

I'm running the 93 octane tune and have seen varying results. I'm judging solely based on seat of the pants feeling and the "estimated torque" monitor which I also understand won't be accurate but similar to a dyno would hopefully give me a comparable point between when I ran stage 1 vs stage 3

I live in Texas so the summer weather is never a good time to test. Recently it started cooling off so I decided to see what numbers I could get.

For some reason even on a cold morning with ambient temps in the 60s and CATs in the 60-70 range I still get max boost of about 17.45. Which lead to 320-330 or so estimated torque. Cobb states roughly 378 torque and 336 hp for this tune so it seems like I would hit that if boost would actually reach 21psi or so but it just doesn't. Anyone else have a similar issue? Links below show my access port results. Silver faceplate access port is my stage 3 setup. Blue accessport faceplate was my Cobb stage 1 setup with only CAI and 93 tune. CATs were much lower but I saw estimated torque above 400. Just looking for feedback as this is my first tuned turbo vehicle. Thanks in advance!

Hi RRMatey, I had a similar issue.
I have COBB stage 2, map downpipe, adam wastegate
I was reaching about 21 ps and BPV was fluttering, I mounted stock air box, and now I reach 24 psi.
I suggest do this test

Peak boost for me on stage 3 Cobb hardware and OTS tune was 18.06psi, charge air temps at 81.7F. Cobb's documentation says that stage 3 OTS should max at ~24.5psi and taper to ~21psi, so definitely pretty disappointing and you're clearly not alone. Went with tune+ and got to 23.3psi with no change in hardware. It also should be said that my charge pipes weren't loose.

Thanks for the responses everyone. I just wanted to make sure I wasn't going crazy. I'll definitely be looking into tune+ as well.

Ypena the intercooler does a good job of cooling the temps during rapid acceleration but can vary by 15 to 20 degrees from ambient while cruising around. I do have logs and will look at uploading them for you.

Michele I'm glad you were able to solve your problem but mounting the stock air box would defeat the purpose for me since I like the cold air intake sound and blow off which can be heard much louder than stock not to mention that I spent $360 for that part alone.

Wowstang I'm glad I'm not the only one. Did you or do you currently have any white smoke issues coming from your exhaust? I had that issue and took it to the dealership where they said the oil seal had failed and they replaced the turbo for free. It stopped the smoke for a bit but it came back recently. I don't have a catch can so not sure if it could be that too. Read some others forum posts where some people said that an aftermarket downpipe may not provide the right back pressure to keep the seals intact. I think that's BS since so many tuners offer down pipes and hopefully aren't causing cars to exude white smoke all over the nation....lol

Smoke out of the exhaust while idling with an aftermarket downpipe is a common issue with the 2015s. Search the forums for "blue smoke" and you'll see plenty of posts about it. Ford came out with an updated PCV to fix the issue, or you can get a catch can with an in-line check valve (like the UPR dual valve) and then gut the PCV you already have. I replaced my original PCV with the updated one from Ford before I installed my downpipe and I haven't had any smoking issues yet.

I've been reading the posts on the forums about the white smoke and even referenced the TSB when I went into my local Ford dealership and they ended up replacing the Turbo (even though performance before and after the swap feels the exact same. I tried to tell them about the PCV in hopes of getting one of the updated ones but they ignored it. Trying to figure out how to get them to replace that without saying the oil seal for the turbo is the issue again...

Wow that's crazy. The PCV is really simple to swap. I don't know how much mechanical experience you have or how comfortable you are working on the car, but I purchased the updated PCV from Tasca for like 22 bucks (shipping included) and installed it myself. I have very little mechanical experience myself and it was very easy to do.

I ended up sending a datalog of my results to Cobb and never heard anything back. I followed up with them and they said the file had gone to their junk email and that they would have someone take a look at it. Didn't end up hearing anything for quite a bit and followed up multiple times. Ended up speaking to someone at Cobb HQ in Austin and they informed me that the results didn't seem out of the ordinary even though it isn't making the boost or torque parameters according to the accessport as described in their tune description..... I like the guys but its been kind of painful to get the attention I need without becoming the annoying guy....

I ran the stage two Cobb tune and wasn't impressed. I'm still working on finalizing my Adam tune fbut so far it blows the Cobb out of the water. I'm only running the IC and an intake, best I've see est torque is 386 at around 24 psi.... Might wanna look at another tune.

My take on this issue is that Cobb probably has a lot more to lose if they get a reputation for breaking cars than the various small businesses providing tuning solutions. Because of that, they probably play on the safe side with their tunes, and have chosen to go with higher quality materials in their parts than most other parts providers to snatch up that market. Their upgrade paths don't require a pro tuner, so they also appeal to the newbies.
