Hello all,
I hope this is the correct forum for my questions. I have a 2017 V6 6speed that unfortunately has had the front plastics melted almost off. My house caught on fire 5 weeks ago and my car was parked about 6-8 feet from the fire. The only damage is to the front plastics and the lights. I received the estimate for repair as the car is full coverage insurance and they want 8000. Insurance wants to total it. I don't want that as my mom loved riding in it and she didn't survive the fire, so sentimental. I have bought the majority of the parts myself and plan on replacing them. All of the wiring is perfectly fine with no damage what so ever.
Now on to my question. Do I need the air baffles and/or the air deflectors? I really don't have the extra money, and really need the car running as it is my commuter car.
Sorry this is so long.
Cara

Man, sorry for your loss. Check with local junk yards or do a broader search for the parts you need and replace them yourself. The bumper and headlights are easy to replace with simple hand tools

Technically theyre not needed but if you arent going the performance route they do route air to the right places as well as the shroud that blocks are off does alot for reducing cold start cooling to allownfor faster heatup and more inportantly closed at highway speeds for better aerodynamics which equate to better speed and gas milage

Unplugging the motor which runs the Flaps can cause a cel so many of us just tune it out or leave the motor in but remove the flaps when going the performance route

Unfortunately, the heat from that fire might well have damaged more than you can see. Wires melted, fused together, which might not crop up until you have spent your money on everything else (and this is just the tip of the iceberg).
Cars can be replaced, people cannot. Sorry for your loss, but maybe it is time to move on and cherish your memories.

Thank you.
I have looked here in NM and the surrounding states and so far haven't found compatible cars. Unless I can use a GT's and they would fit.

,
Thank you. Part of the problem is that I owe more than the car is worth. I just hit 180,000 miles on it. my other vehicles are an F-150 and 250. with my commute I can't afford the gas in those if I drove them daily.
I've checked the wires, no damage. even the plastics right behind the bumper was fine. I've already put another 1000 miles on it. I drive 140 miles one way for work and so far so good. I also checked/tested fuses and wires. Part of my job is to do the same on medical equipment.

Sorry for your losses. When did this happen?

I have trained myself over the years to become less sentimental. But there are a few things I've held onto (so long as they are still functional) for sentimental reasons.

That said, if it was me, I'd probably take the cash-out. If I loved the car's color, I might replace it with the same color. Maybe even a little upgrade to the car model. You could have a custom badge made, that honors your mom, to replace the one above your glove box.

The grill may be different, but the bumper and lights are the same. Just find one you like and install it. Considering the mileage, I'd be trying to spend as little as possible to bring it back up to snuff. 8k is a ridiculous price to pay, and if you have basic mechanical skill and some tools, you can fix it yourself .

You'll be fine without the aero equipment for a daily commute. The car will suffer a very slight reduction of power and mpg but should otherwise run like a champ.

I am sincerely very sorry for your losses.
I am wishing you the best as you try to move forward in your situation and I hope your car keeps running for longer than you need it to.

I won't belabor the point here, but maybe I can clarify. The wires might all be functional at this time. My concern for the OP is this. Some of the casings may have been scorched, and wire exposed. Or, the casings hardened to a point where they eventually crumble away from the wire. These are issues that can crop up over time, no different than a flood damaged vehicle.
Just be careful and aware.

The fire was Jan 26. There is nothing left of the house and we lost pretty much all of the indoor pets. 20 animals in total which does include the animals that were in the front yard which was lost too. I would still owe about 5000 if I take the payout and would have no car to get to and from work.
