Wanting to regear my ‘21 base Gt 6MT to 4.09 but retain warranty.

Also need to be able to run 87 for daily driving.

FP states only 91+, which I get if you’re banging on it, but I’m off thinking as long as I’m easy on the skinny when on 87, am I really going to be susceptible to damaging knock? Doesn’t the ecm still have some timing retard to accommodate?

I spoke with FP tech support and they were very black and white which I understand.

Obviously it would be 93 only for track time.

Any input is appreciated

Nope, I wouldn't do it. The car has knock retard, yeah, but by using 87 with a tune designed around 91+ octane, the car will always be fighting to stay in the safety zone, meaning damage from pre-ignition will be more likely, and you'll probably be making less power than stock with all the ignition retard the car will be throwing left and right, lol. The FP tune in particular focuses more on low end torque gains deep in the low RPM, higher load type situations that you often come across in daily driving. Those are also funny enough the situations you're most likely to see pre-ignition during when you're using substandard fuel.

With that said, why are you trying to re-gear the car if you're insistent on running 87 all the time? The stock gearing is actually pretty nice for daily driving.

Likely because he wants more grunt but gas is like $4.20+ for regular now in PA and 91+ is over nearly $5.

Understandable, but unfortunately in life we can't have it all. The stock power level is plenty; the fact you can get most of it on 87 is one of the better aspects of these cars. But if you want more, you gotta pay to play as they say.

Thanks for all the input— I’d like to put a 4.09 torsen in for the 15+ track days a year the car sees and happy to run 93 octane when there.

Looks like I’ll deal with the 3.55 and see how long the clutch packs hang in there on 305 200tw.

Sucks no one has figured out how to get a ‘20+ revmatch car to take a gear change on a stock tune. Id even give up revmatch completely if it would just take the gear change and stay out of limp mode.
