F1 must change dangerous rules or a driver could die

Hello; The above link confirmed and elaborated on what I concluded recently. For those, like me, who question the new battery power must equal ICE power notion the link is worth a read.
My take a week or so ago was the energy for battery power and for ICE power all comes from the ICE power plant. I get that some of the "harvesting" comes from kinetic energy during braking so in a questionable sense is "free" energy. I say questionable because the hybrid system adds weight & such to a race car in which weight is an enemy.
But the link defines the main problem. That being the power from the battery amounts to only being available a few seconds, (11 seconds at Japan) The other part of that problem is there is not enough absolutely required braking time during the lap to fully recharge.
So, if I read it correctly the drivers have to do some recharging at other places which winds up reducing expected/accustomed speed at points. If all drivers decided to do the extra harvesting at the same places during every lap then all would adjust.
But it seems that speed reducing extra harvesting is random and changes from lap to lap with all the drivers. So, at any time a driver may slow unexpectedly. I am confident the drivers will learn to deal with this to a degree.
I sometimes wonder if F1 & NFL bosses get together and work on how to screw up a well-functioning sport. For example, why does the battery power need to match the ICE power to begin with? For that matter why do F1 cars need to be hybrids?

Just FYI, the battery can also be charged by the ICE engine.

Martin Brundle to 'boring' Max Verstappen: 'Leave F1, or stop talking about it'
Hello; I just read the link. Several possible takes. Most unfavorable. I am still behind seeing one race. So far, I see a mixed result with the new rules. At first, it appeared passing was improved and an implication for more interesting competition. Not so fast, the battery management seems to be questioned as being real "racing".
I ,so far. think max and others have a valid point. They ought to be able to gripe about dumb rules. But such is not the gist of Brundle's comments. Here is part of my take. Brundle has been sour on Max since he won his first championship. If memory serves Brundle has been among the championship was stolen from LH crowd. That argument was hashed out ad nauseum on here.

So, I dismiss some of Brundle's rhetoric. Should Max be talking about leaving F1 so vocally is the question? That he can leave is not the debatable question. It is more that Max is a threat to the golden egg producing racing format. It is not like some back marker blaming the equipment for a lack of success. Max can & does win in most any car he sits in. His public gripes advertise the missteps F1A continue to make. The first hybrid F1 car was a nod to a powerful anti ICE agenda. To me, a false flag. This further move to make the hybrid battery power equal to the ICE output is absurd and make no sense in racing terms.

Why did they move the Monaco date?
They ruined the greatest race day, Monaco, Indy and Charlotte back to back.
Now they are going to run the Canadian GP while Indy is running.

Hello; Have to agree. That race day had become a tradition for me. Was to be spoiled this year for me anyway as the F1 races went streaming only.
NASCAR has very nearly spoiled their racing format. Indy car is some better with the new car in that the body work allows some close racing without the disaster of open wheel touches. They rub a little now.

I did not know about Monaco. Would not miss the race much anyway. It is a tradition I know but not much racing. Only fun if your favorite happens to qualify 1st.

Watched Japan last evening. Not much new to add. The passing which at first looked promising is revealed to be a side effect of poorly planned battery deployment (had to adopt a new racing term this season-deployment) So a car with a charged battery can scoot around a rival. But soon as it gets past the battery boost is used up so it is like the brakes are on. The car just passed was "harvesting", being the reason, it was slow. Then the just passed car has a battery boost just about when the recent passing car gets slow. Repeat. The old Pete & repeat joke played out in F1 racing.

KA was extremely lucky with the wreck caused by the poorly planned battery deployment as predicted. Again, I would like to be a fly on the wall when LH reflects on that MB seat he walked away from.

I think of this season as running "gadget cars". I drove a 2026 Mustang GT back in FEB. The big center touch screen is, to me, a gadget. Or controls too many gadgets. I do get why the stuff is in new cars. So many folks like such gadgets and the engineers who make such things are gadget lovers by definition. I watched a review of a newer car recently. The car was mechanically reported a good but was panned because it did not have the latest "gadgets".
I still do not understand what a hybrid race car has to offer the sport.

Why does F1 and the FIA do anything these days? I swear they are trying to piss off all of its viewers. But honestly unless they make some major changes to the battery management system I'll be watching Indy and get the 30 minute recap on Apple TV for the Canadian GP.

I'm not sure. That used to be the case in the good old days, when F1 was F1. Today, with the new eco-friendly mess, what can happen during the race is anyone's guess.

Hello; Fell asleep watching TV. When I awoke the 2005 F1 USA GP was on the F1 Channel. What a farce that was. I had driven the six hours a year or so before to the Indy race. spent the money for lodging and over $100 for a ticket. That at least was a real race.
The 2005 debacle was among the reasons I dislike M Schumacher but not the only one. Same for Ferrari as they were the main force waving a rule book around preventing Michelin from bringing a safe tire for the race. Only six cars in the race. Fans throwing stuff and holding signs wanting money back. TV announcers talking security plans if the fans revolt.

For me so far 2026 is looking to be a season long debacle. I do not yet know what changes have been made as I am a week delayed from seeing the races. That in itself is part of the debacle for me.

Hello; i left the TV showing the 2005 F1 USA race while I played on my computer. The replay just ended. As M Schumacher is walking to the podium to get the trophy one of th commentators announced he was receiving lots of boos from the remaining crowd. Then added That Schumacher has gotten boos before. How true.
