Hello; Wow! Comparing Dan Gurney to Stroll is a bit silly. Gurney was more than a talented driver. In the fullness of time lance may do something better but so far, no comparison to Gurney.

Kind of glad i do not delve into the background of F1 too deep. Did not know the dad owner the team. Sadly, that explains too much.

Did not know about being Jewish either. Don't get into that sort of thing and would have preferred not to know. Puts a spin on things which does not need to happen. The various criticisms on Stroll I have seen have seemed well founded. Actually, have felt he skates too much and generally deserves more criticism. But now that I know of the dad owning the team & all it begins to make underserved logic.

Too funny to see people on forums saying someone does not belong in F1.

Just like every sport there are winners and losers...but all of these drivers are skilled enough for F1 and have dominated everything growing up as drivers.

truth! When I worked for Panasonic years ago there was a Indycar driver who was related to the founder (link below). The only time he got airtime is when he was being passed. He had what it took to drive but not to win. I highly doubt any of us could get in an F1 car today and take Raidillon at full throttle but that’s what every F1 driver does. As in everything there are multiple levels of skill.

Dominating lesser motorsports categories(and there's a big asterisk after his F3 championship) does not mean you should have a seat in F1.

Stroll is a perfect example of this.

Because of the extremely high cost of professional motor sports there have always been "pay for" driving seats. More so in F1 than Indycar or Nascar. There are only a handful of what could be considered "winning capable" drivers, especially in F1. The rest just fill up the field for the mid and back level teams.

Don't disagree that there are other pay drivers out there, but there's plenty of turnover with the mediocre drivers. Stroll is finishing up his 9th season. Any other situation, he'd have been long gone. Let's not ignore how he got into F1 and why he continues to stay there. Daddy in both cases. Period.

Can you name another crummy pay driver who's held onto a seat in F1 for a decade? I can't think of one, although maybe there's someone else.

Oh, I absolutely agree. If not for daddy he would have been gone eight seasons ago. Can you image him at Red Bull? Even partnering with Fernando, one of the best ever, hasn't raised his game. Yes, it's certainly time for him to go. Heck, I'd love to see Yuki partnered with Fernando. Now that would be fun.

While that is absolutely true, and I'll be the first to admit that any F1 driver is incomparably better at driving fast than I will ever be, frankly I don't see it as a good argument against the idea that Stroll doesn't belong in F1. Because what really matters is how he compares to other F1 drivers, not to us.

I can't play the piano at all, or any other instrument for that matter, but I can still tell when someone is playing badly and doesn't belong in a concert hall next to Mitsuko Uchida or András Schiff. I'm not the yardstick; they are.

Well. He has 10 more points than Gasley and the same number as Ocon. Both considered to be better than average drivers. He also has driven some excellent races including three podiums. That said his last one was five seasons ago. I think he has talent but lacks consistency.

That's fair but let's look at those podiums.

2017 Azerbaijan GP - SEVEN DNFs in that one, enough said.

2020 Sakhir GP - 3 DNFS(Verstappen and Leclerc retired from the front early due to a collision, Latifi retired with an oil leak) - George Russell had a botched pit stop(they gave him Bottas' fronts, forcing Bottas to sit in the pit for a very long time and forcing Russel to re-pit, and then Russell also had a puncture later on, forcing yet another pit stop for tires).

2020 Italian GP - 4 DNFs(Verstappen, Magnusen, Vettel, Leclerc) - also, Hamilton and Giovinazzi were penalized for entering a closed pit and had to serve penalties mid race.. which put them at the back of the field.

A clear pattern. Stroll usually finishes respectably when everyone else screws up.

There are endless incidents that show his lack of on-track awareness. Just taking people out, for no reason. Because he's not paying attention? Who knows. And no, I can't outdrive him, but I don't need to, I'm not on the team.

He does hold one record though. Most Q1 exits. ROFL.

Anyways I don't need to go on about Stroll forever. I just get on these rants because he's bad... Objectively bad.

This weekend should be an exciting one. No doubt it will end with controversy of some sort and some really happy(and mad) fans.

Hello; I am spurred to recall from decades ago a NASCAR driver who was also a celebrity. Marty Robbins. I never got to see him race live and did not see much film of him driving. A time when I was not well funded and also did not get good TV.
I have read much later that he was a decent driver. I had to rethink my first impression that he bought his way into a seat. I still do not know.
I do like many of his songs.
