As much as I enjoy F1, it’s getting harder and harder to look forward to some of the races. The puffery(would even make Billy Mays) proud is to much to take. They should shake Monaco up by atleast running it in a reverse format.
I’m loving the on track racing this year with all the rookies, the resurgence of some of the weaker teams, and tracks like Imola. But I’m torn about Monaco. For as much as I love the history and the location the track just doesn’t work for modern F1 cars. Quite frankly it has become dangerous for the drivers as seen yesterday with Max and Lewis. For this reason I think it's time for it to go. I’d love to see Imola back as it’s replacement.

Hello; I am watching a replay of Monaco practice. I understand the history part but do not care if it disappears. Kind of makes me think of the short bull ring tracks in NASCAR. The race is generally set by whom ever gets pole.
This year two pitstops are required and they brought the new softest tire to the track. Such will shake things up I suppose.

But an occasion where we agree.

Well it wasn’t Lewis’ fault, it was the teams wrong communication. But the driver gets the penalty, so thats that. It’s going to be a long race.

Hello; Things are back to normal already. Lewis did the actual blocking on the track. The team communication was a factor. The team got a three-place set back. Got a break as it was only three.

That Max will not likely be able to pull off a first lap jump to first ought to give the Hamilton fans something to like.

Hello; I just finished watching the race. Not a fan of the two mandatory pit stops (tires). The blocking by teammates reminded me of the old SEC basketball before shot clocks were put in. One SEC coach played slow ball, and the score totals were always low. Deliberate slowing the pace of the game by passing the ball around. Never did like those basketball games. The race was sort of like watching a chess match perhaps.
Would love to have been a fly on the wall at MB private meetings this weekend.

Perhaps some small consolation for LH & Ferrari. At least both cars in the points.

HAD made an odd strategy work as did some other teams.

Still a race that favors the best qualifiers.

After yesterday, I've decided not to watch future Monaco races.

I was viewing to see how things would play out, if the race would improve. I stopped around lap 55.

When the lap count was in the 40s, Sky commentators and one of the Williams team confirmed my thoughts: the race was not going to be won by the better driver or the better car, but 1) who could schedule their pit stops to their advantage and 2) teammates purposely holding the rest of the field up to manipulate pit stop windows

I ultimately became dismayed, disappointed and somewhat disgusted by the above, and by Albon coasting out of the tunnel, leading to several near misses with other cars.

Monaco could still hold a place on the F1 calendar, but not as a race.

The location could be used as...

- An exhibition of some type, fan appreciation event, etc. Maybe bring in some of the older cars, with current racers doing parade laps. Drivers, fans and teams mixing. Part of the Summer break period

- A qualifying-only setup, for points. Drivers draw their position in a random lineup. One driver on track at a time. One warm-up lap, then one hot lap, only. Fastest car takes most points

- Blending the two comments above, a hill climb like event

Maybe something else.

The track has secured its history. This weekend confirmed (again) it can no longer be used as a race venue.

I hatefully agree with you. As much as I love the history and the pagentry, this is supposed to be a car race. It was nothing of the kind. The drivers did what they had too but based on George’s comments I’m sure none of them liked it. I say, back to Imola.

There's nothing wrong with the track. It definitely can be used as a race venue, just like it has been used for decades. Nothing has intrinsically changed to make it unuseable.
It just needs FIA to stop interfering and dreaming up idiotic rules every time they go out to the pub and drink too much. Bloody morons. :curse:

No one said there is a problem with the track. The problem is the cars that are too big for it. You can’t have a race with no passing. That’s the issue. Unfortunately Monaco's time has run out and we need to move on.

Monaco has always been a track with little to no passing. If you can pass, good for you. If you can't, then you don't. If you want to win, you must work hard to secure a pole position. It's always been like this.
If the track was good enough for Senna, Prost, Mansell, Schumacher and all the other greats, then it's more than good enough for anybody.

The drivers you mentioned all drove much smaller cars. And yes it’s always been a difficult track but there is a difference between difficult and almost impossible. Yesterdays race was ridiculous.

Yesterday's race was ridiculous because of that idiotic rule about the minimum number of pit stops. FIA officials should refrain from making up rules when they're drunk.

Hello; All true statements. Here is something I have noticed the last week or two. I have a ROKU streaming device. I get the F1 channel. From time to time I leave that channel on in the background. I watched an 1980's Monaco race and noted they left a broken down car on the side of the track jut before the tunnel entrance and the race went on.
Watched some of an early 2000's race when they refueled in the pits and had "grooved dry tires".
Pretty sure I could find other examples of how F1 has changed over the decades. My point being F1 is nor much of a sticker for tradition. NASCAR started doing away with the small bull ring track races. Sometimes cutting down from two races to just one or even none.
My WAG is much depends on how the money stacks up. Monaco is a spectacle for the very wealthy. May be the TV audience is small potatoes to the money brought in at Monaco.
I stopped going to NASCAR races many years ago and it survived. I'll be it with many empty seats lately at some races.

But the race was pretty much a bust as a viewer. Kept the drivers race a bit tighter which may help keep the rest of the season of interest.
