So this doesn’t hold true across the paddock. I won’t discount the feedback from the driver to the engineers, because its absolutely vital. That said I don’t think the majority understand(drivers) how that correlates to changes on the car. Vettel for example was extremely good at that and was basically an engineer level driver. I get Hamilton’s frustration, he just made a mistake in expressing it. It happens. Not knocking him, but Hamilton has been VERY privileged with that Merc. And that was great for him but Merc is in a really bad place at the moment and I don’t think they actually know what to do to correct it. People can say what they want but Redbull and Horner have this dialed in(the car) at a whole different level then the others. There’s a reason why he(Horner) went after Newey years ago and ponied up the 10mil a year for him. There’s only a few drivers that make more then Newey. I hope I’m wrong because I just want to see good racing, but I don’t think Redbull even has it turned up all way. Did anybody else notice with all the bs about the budget cap being breached by lets be honest serving to many burgers to vip’s(400k), they(Horner) basically said here’s your …… fine, I’m going to run this right up everyone’s …. next year. And here we are one race in. Can anybody else recall so much hoopla about a teams pace one race in? I can’t.

I'm going to disagree with the bolded part of your statement.

All of these drivers are the best in the world. Given their level of expertise and experience (most have been driving since single digit age) their input to the engineers is massive in helping to make the car the best it can be in THEIR hands. Every driver has preferences to how a car performs and it is up to the engineers to make it perform the way the DRIVER wants it to. Obviously the grip around the circuit is number one and they all want more of this. However drivers also tend to want more under/over steer amid several other small preferences the engineers make happen.

Just look at Ricciardo and how the McLaren did not suit his style like the RB did.

Remember there are many reasons why the drivers are the highest paid employees...and it is not all about their on track performance.

I believe you can say any winning driver has been privliledged by their car.

I was referring to the dominance Merc had. Even with Vettels four wins the championships were close. But I do agree to a point. It’s interesting how Russel stepped in to Merc and how he exceeded Hamiltons performance. Not knock’n Ham just noting the differences. It’s interesting that some drivers deal with the not so good nuances better then others. It is what it is.

Wouldn't you love to see drivers switch cars for a day? Just for the fun of it.

Max and that RB are just in another league. Sits out first 20 mins of FP1 and within a couple laps faster than anyone easily. I know it's just second race, but I do believe RB will be more dominant than MB ever was in a single year. I don't know if they can stretch that out for 7-8 but last year and this year, they nailed this car. Of course, having Max talent helps, but everyone saying Lewis only won because of the car, you guys are going to have to eat that one back lololol

The race definitely solidifies your post. If we are to believe RB, both cars had issues and still comfortably came in the top 2 spots.

Hello; So RB is top of the pack with none actually very close. Wrecks or mechanical failures may be the only way they do not win.
2nd, 3rd, or 4th tier cars to be determined at a later date. The AM is a strong contender for the runner up to RB with Ferrari and MB contesting for 3rd and 4th level.

But will be fun to see Alonzo near the front some, but that will get old soon.

I was pleased to see LH let cars pass him up without running them off the track.

Not sure what to make of Ferrari.

Hello; Who won the race? I set the race to record as it started in the wee hours but the recording stopped right before the last red flag was ending.

Redbull and Verstappen are in a different league right now... It wasn’t even as close as the nine seconds before the red flag. I can only imagine what Hamilton was thinking when Verstappen went by him like he accidentally hit the brakes. Car is no joke fast.

What I thought about it..

11 championships between the podium finishers…. I can dig that… crazy race. insane how fast the RB is with DRS, Perez flying by the McLaren was hilarious. Shows how dragy the McLaren is though.

Also just like that McLaren go from last to 5th in team standings in one race.

Happy that Stroll got 4th, I know people bag him but I like him.

Only took 3rd race for Alpine to take each other out. Did kinda look like Gasly was looking to the left. I lost my bet that Ocon would’ve been the cause.

And let’s not forget the pace of Mercedes. Although no one could catch Max, a very strong 2nd for Lewis was actually quite surprising. And welcome.

I’m also very happy for Fernando. Three poles in a row. Seems like he finally made the right choice by going to AM.
