Your 30 seconds of 2nd gear playing in the parking lot is not gonna cause the diff to heat up.
With that said, I got a check engine light when I spun out in my RX-8. It gave me a crank position sensor error. Cleared it and all was good.

I got CEL as well at my other car, but that was because I ended up going backwards with gear on. I guess the engine was rotating in the opposite direction. But this is extreme.

It sounds like mustang errors out under normal for other cars conditions, like, driving and not loosing control.
