Ford Racing FL820 oil filter?

I just passed the 1000 mile mark and was changing the oil today. I was going to run the Ford Racing FL820 filter, but I couldn’t get it to clear the alternator. It just seems to be too wide compared to the FL-500s.

Has anyone else gotten the FL820 to fit on the Mach 1?

Great car, I can’t wait to see what it can do now that I’m past break-in.

Well shit. I have the same filter ready to go on my car for the first oil change. I have not read anywhere that it has a fitment issue.

Do you know if there’s another ford racing filter alternative? Seems crazy that they (ford) would sell this as fitting ‘21 5.0’s and not know it doesn’t fit our cars

Looks like Levittown calls out this p/n as not fitting. According to Ford performance they have it listed as Upgrade for Motorcraft FL-500 filter (space permitting) . I believe Ford performance doesn't have an oil filter that will work at the moment without modifying.

When I was ordering I thought there was another part # on the ford site for a different ford racing filter but I can’t seem to find it now.
good thing I only ordered 1 filter and no extras

I bet the problem is the oil cooler line adapter to which the filter attaches to - it shifts the filter location, bringing it closer to the alternator. It works fine on a GT because it doesn't have an oil cooler.

OP, thank you for sparring me the surprise as I got two filters sitting at home and am changing oil soon.

I too can confirm the FL820 does NOT fit. Tried this with my first oil change, you can't get the filter to thread there's really no room and from what I remember the filter get displaced too far to the rear of the car to start the threads. It's definitely a non-go.

Did you just go with the fl-500?

I cant at the moment

The OE filter # is 9C2Z-6731-A
The motorcraft equivalent is FL-2107
I don't see a FP replacement for this number at this time. This info is from a 2021 VIN.
