I just purchased a used 2016 GT with this programmer in the glove box. Owner was a used car dealer and was unaware of how to access and no idea who previous owner was. Ford is telling me without the original computer I cannot access it. Has anybody had to do this?

Label on it states the below.

Ford Performance (C413)

You could try contacting Ford Performance and try giving them the serial number on the tuner and VIN of your car. They might be able to give you access if they match.

I have a ProCal3 and it is locked to my car. Had to register with FP. I assume its the same deal with you. Hopefully if you have all the matching information they will somehow give you access.

Assuming the tune is currently on your car, you could go to a Ford dealer and have them revert you back to stock. However, they usually charge a lot for this service.

Yea Ford told me without the original computer there is no way to access. I do not want to go back to stock as the car runs great just trying to have access to it before I do any other mods.

What are they referring to as the “original computer”???

The car should have the original PCM in it. If you have already given Ford your VIN # and they are saying that, then in OASIS they must see that there are service records indicating either a PCM revision, a PCM replacement or the PCM has someone else’s Tune.

Tell us what has been done to the car…

Just picked the car up 2 weeks ago. Outside of a an axle back and the Ford Performance cold Air intake I have yet to be able to confirm if the intake manifold and throttle body were changed out or if it was just the intake and tune. I found the blue OBD2 Ford performance tuner in the glove box so I was hoping to gain access to the tuning program to see what settings were set up in it to give me some info. Biggest problem when buying a car like this from a used car dealer, they have 0 idea of what was done. The original computer was not referring to the PCM. Ford is telling me I need the original laptop that installed the tune which seems a bit odd to me this day and age

"You would have to have the original laptop that it was hooked to when the program was installed. Are you trying to return to stock?"

Understood, idk much about the FP procal devices, but if you have plans to mod the car in a way that would require more tuning in the future, it would prob be best return it to stock before that and get a more common tuning device.
If the procal has the option to return to stock and the file is present on the device then that's easy. If not, it sounds like paying Ford to reflash the stock cal is the only other option.
If you don't plan to mod the car in a way that would require future tuning, I would just run it as is and enjoy it.

What Cobra Jet said, the "original computer" lingo isn't very straightforward on this.
Knowing very little about tuning my assumption (yes, I know) was the laptop or desktop computer that the tune was loaded from, that held the stock tune. That the device in the glove box was a pass through device that talked to/altered the ECM.
My ignorance may be showing...

It seems to me if the OP wants to start fresh that he'd have to get a blank ECM and have it programed to the original as built tune, like if the ECM was faulty.

I have the ford tune on my 19 gt. Did it myself. The tune is married to the pcm, you will have to have the original file that was downloaded to ford performance, the only way to access that would be through the original owner. He would have the necessary key ford would require for you to log in and retrieve the original tune. However there are options within the pro cal device. Google how to use the pro cal 4 and you can figure it out from there.
If you are wanting more timing done get a different device that one is not modifiable

Definitely going to be building this car so Ill enjoy it as is for now and build the suspension in the meantime. Appreciate the feedback everyone. Not sure if Ill be able to find the original owner that installed the tune in the first place so sounds like ford gets more of my money before the fun stuff.

The 15-17 kit didn't use the pro cal, just a little interface dongle to a laptop that did the work.

If you have just a blue OBD dongle with a USB cable attached to it, it is a Procal 3 FP tune, if you have a handheld device that resembles a Livernois tuner it is a Procal 4 tuner. Being a 16 GT it is likely a Procal 3 tune in which there is no actual tuning file you can look at even if you had the laptop and verification key code. There is also no tuning you could do if you had access either because it's not how the tune program is designed.

Unless you can somehow find the original owner that installed the FP tune in the car and get his login ID and password as well as the verification key code so you can download the FP program you will not be able to access the PCM to reflash back to the stock tune. FP tech cannot help you either since the original owner owns the FP tune program so only they have access.

I would enjoy it until you are ready to start more modding and then you will just have to bite the bullet and pay a dealer to flash the PCM back to the stock tune before you use another tuning device. Most dealers charge 1 hour labor, but some greedy ones may want 2 hours labor.
