So I stopped by the local ford dealer today and got the sample colors. According to the booklet I received the dark red isn't called rapid red metallic. It's being called red carpet metallic for the mustangs.

There are no booklets to my knowledge out at the dealers for the GT500, so that color could be for any other mustang but the GT500.

I will take a pic in a few and show what I mean. It says underneath it is called something different. The booklet is of all the colors with vehicles that can be ordered in it underneath.

Well, this ended up being far less straightforward than I expected.

2020 Mustang 'reds' are offered in either 'Red Hot Tri-Coat' (which became 'Rapid Red Metallic Tinted Clearcoat' for Mustang) or 'Race Red'.

The assembly teledata/build books show coordinate A24-A25 (Exterior Paint) = D4 = 'RED HOT TC', but the marketing build data shows A24-25 = D4 is named "Rapid Red Metallic Tinted Clearcoat".

Even more interesting:
- the Expedition uses A21-22 = D4 = 'RED HOT/RED CARPET',
- the Escape uses A24-25 = D4 = 'LUCID RED TC'
- the Edge uses A22-23 = D4 = 'LUCID RED'
- the Fusion uses A24-25 = D4 = 'LUCID RED TC', the MKZ uses A24-25= D4 = 'RED CARPET TC'
- the Ranger uses A21-22 = D4 = 'RAPID RED'

Essentially, marketing has modified the paint name based on the vehicle it is going on, but as shown above D4 paint is D4 paint.

Basically like Dodge, Ram and Chrysler do calling Delmonico red different names for each brand. Just didn't expect it to be named different within the same brand.

Correct, there are no booklets/pamphlets specific to GT500 at this time.

BTW, you are in upstate NY, right? Where are you getting your vehicle? if you don't mind me asking.

I would have loved to have seen FORD offer the new Shelby GT 500 in a really dark maroon metallic. Kinda like a dark plum but in metallic paint. Throw in the black stripes and that would have been totally AWESOME.

Yes I live near the Syracuse area about 45 mins to the east, and I ordered it from a dealer in the midwest. Just made my final color choice as the original order went in as Twister Orange with stripes to now Oxford white black roof.
