The last new Mustang I bought was my 2014 in June 2013. Still have it and I brought Jaeger Bros front ‘mud flaps’ for the 4hr drive home. A car buddy went with me and he and the dealer found it funny watching me install them on a new car.
Fast forward to today, my ‘22 is due this week or next. What are the ‘must haves’ for an S550 delivery?
1) VVR (vehicle visibility report)
2) Front rock blockers (best brand? Other methods better?)
3) Paint correction/ceramic coating. On this car I’m going to ask the dealer to just hose it off and then my brother and 2 of his detail buddies and I will all be doing paint correction.
4) Tint. My tint guys a pro but any strange S550 tint quirks.

I’m sure a search would help, but I know many guys are in the same boat anxiously waiting delivery day and many here have been thru this already.
Any advice appreciated.

I never met a ford that did not come off the showroom without paint flaws Biggly
Correct.
I do understand it’s a Mustang and despite horror stories and a new paint process at Flatrock in 2013 for all ‘14 MY Mustangs, my 2014 GT500 has excellent paint.
Just hoping for the best there.

Definitley go over the entire car in either bright outdoor sunlight OR have them pull it into a shop bay with bright lighting. Look over EVERYTHING on the exterior and interior before signing or leaving. Bring anything of concern to the attention of your Salesperson and if it’s to be an “IOU”, get it in writing.

The biggest mistake some make on any new car purchase is either looking at it briefly in the dark parking lot, or just not closely looking over the car due to high emotions of actually buying it…. then finding issues once home.

New S550’s, regardless if Shelby or not, have poor paint quality (drips, runs, “globs” at bumper cover corners and paint will chip easily). They also have body panel gap issues. It’s been this way since 2015 inception and hasn’t improved. Make sure you open each door, hood and trunk panel slowly to make sure it does not come in contact with the adjacent body panel.

Some have also found that the rear trunk lid black center appliqué between the tails will stick out further past the taillights… an annoyance, but can be remedied by using spacers on taillights.

If your distance from dealer to your home is excessive and you won’t have PPF installed, I’ve seen some folks on multiple forums wrap the front end (and other important areas like mirror caps, top edge of roof above windshield, A-pillars, etc) in the blue 3M painters tape OR use the commercial Saran Wrap that is used for wrapping pallets to protect those areas on the drive back.

Make sure all owners manuals, Shelby supplement and any owners kit is present too. Especially with the Shelby’s, owners kits (or car covers) are important if they were to come with the car at purchase.

To Add to Cobra Jet (Can't believe you missed the big ones)

1. open the engine hood and check the right cooler hose to see its not pinched in the back, you would know this because it wont be in the channel.
2. Under the car check a hose next to the tranny some cars have it too close and pinched on the bracket.
3. Under the backseat or cover if you get a CFTP make sure the fuel line grommet is seated properly.
4. Check all covered areas (Such as around the hood pins) for incomplete paint job (ask me how I know)

Attached are the pictures of the first 3:

Also, check the coolant hose routing near the alternator belt under the intake tube. Some folks have had the hose rub against the belt due to improper securing at the factory.
When checking the door gaps pay special attention to the corners, especially the rear hood corners, the front trunk corners (by the rear glass), and the forward and rear edges of the doors to make sure none of them contact any other body panels.
The paint issues usually show themselves around the headlights and anywhere else there are sharp points in the metal.
If you’re getting a CFTP make sure they remove ALL FOUR suspension blocks…these get forgotten quite often. Make sure you get the blocks back as you can reuse them if you ever trailer the car. (Again, only applies to CFTP).
Make sure they install the splitter correctly. It’s kind a of a pain to line up all the tabs and there’s multiple overlaps that need to be set correctly.
Ask them to install your oil separator and splitter wickers if you got a CFTP or handling pack. They aren’t required to do so but they might help.
And as stated, install rock blockers or Jaeger Bros flaps before leaving.

Make sure they don't put a front license plate bracket on the car if that's a thing in your state. Make sure your window sticker doesn't disappear or get torn on a window being rolled up and down repeatedly while it's still attached.

Yes to the VVR.
Rockblockers for the front are a must. But not Jaeger Bros. They fall off (I lost 2 sets before I learned)
Buy these: https://rokblokz.com/collections/fo...gt-splash-guards-15-17?variant=11136303956011
- The GT350 version fits the GT500.

Good instructions from @Jmeo:

I didn’t grind on the fenders like he did. Just cleaned up before glueing. Used a heat gun to slightly curve the piece to match the contour of the fender. They are still on the car after 2+ years of track events.

- Unfortunately, Ford no longer installs the front splitter at no charge. CFTP oil separators are now installed at the factory (if memory serves, that is.) Can't recall what the latest is on CFTP camber plates.

- TRY to prevent them from washing the vehicle. One trip to the wash bay and you'll know why.

- Make sure the vehicle is not in transport mode. It takes a handful of steps to turn it off.

EDIT: One more thing that happened to me...the plastic transport shock inserts were left in both rears.

- Advise them you expect no dealer add-ons, other than OEM, at delivery, unless agreed to beforehand

- No drilling of the front...I see that was mentioned

- Have their Prep Team gather up everything from the interior and stow in the trunk, including anything considered "trash". At birth several pieces of paper are left inside, the documents they used while assembling the car. Their cool. A nice piece of history

- Look underneath and confirm any shipping blocks have been removed

- Inspection of the paint has been mentioned several times. You're probably better off not having anyone clean it. You know you'll do a great job; they probably won't and might insert more flaws from their "detailing"

- If the car already has some scuffs from people getting in and out of it, I've seen some promising videos of people using Mr. Clean Magic Erasers

- If the car has cup2 tires or something like...I see you mentioned mud flaps

- I'm sure you'll be detailing the entire car. When possible, clean the inside front windshield. Mine was fogged a little. I started cleaning it and OMG it was horrible. During checkout they run the A/C and defrost. All the residual gunk from the systems rests on the inside front windshield

- As part of the inspection, do a brief test drive, to ensure nothing obvious is wrong with the car

- I had some burning smells for a short time as the residuals burned off the engine and drivetrain on the way home

- I know you'll have insurance. My dealer asked not only for me to sign a statement attesting to such, but copies of the actual insurance cards, for their records

- If you have not already done so, install the Ford Pass App and create an account; they asked me to install and activate the app at signing

Oh and Lastly Scotch Guard the seats, cause that first WOT you dont want to ruin your recaros, or if you have leather heat/cooling seats get electrocuted while saying holy crap.

most of these in detail inspections and "things you ll find" will happen later on. so don t sweat the small stuff. now a days I doubt many will walk away from a car with a minor flaw that can be corrected under warranty, My Mach 1 looks pretty flawless so far but it was delivered with a tiny scratch on the rear quarter. I told them give me the paint and I ll take care of it. You d never find it now after I polished the touchup to near flat. Check the windshield closely for chips too. have fun. it s a car not a museum piece.
