Not sure if the Ecoboost has the sound tube or not that allows engine noise into the cabin. If so, maybe they are using noise cancellation to cancel out background noise and enhance the engine sound

There isn't any visible sound tube although there is a small plastic form right by the cold air box that might play some role in sound management (see photo).

Thanks for the reference. I re-read that article to make sure there was no reference to microphones in the engine bay and there was not. It's easy to see how Dave's comment about "bringing sound in" might have been interpreted as something overt capturing sound, but the only microphones are indeed from the inside.

intake to “breathe in” cooler air from outside

• By taking in cooler air, the intake charge can

Mustang customers always appreciate more power
• GT models feature an induction sound tube
centrally located behind the instrument panel that
allows the natural sound from under the hood to be
heard inside the cockpit

Yes, for the GT models, there is a sound tube. There isn't one on the EcoBoost models, which was in question in the above posts. Thanks for the reference

Here's a question for previous GT V8 owners...how is the sound of the car on long road trips? I mean does it overwhelm you after a while and cause headaches? I know some people are sensitive to things like this. One guy at work who said they had engine noise piped into a car of theirs said that on long road trips it got really annoying.

Everyone is different, but the stock exhaust sounds coming through my 2010's system were only noticeable under hard acceleration and then it just sounded like the volume was closer to you, especially with the windows up.

After changing to an aftermarket set of mufflers that are a bit louder and slightly deeper tone, there wasn't any change in this effect. Obviously if one's tastes tend toward the loud side, it would be a different experience.

It is not a continuous stream of sound that comes through with the stock system and sound tube.

Yes, exactly. On the current models, some folks took out the sound damping materials inside the tube ends to increase the volume, which of course will let in more noise.

It's really unobtrusive until you are under heavy acceleration.

I personally have not heard it, but others who have tried it report mixed results, depending on their sound preferences. My thinking is that there are engineering reasons it was damped the way it was, so removing the additional is going to leave a hollow tube or a tube with partial dampening, which is going to force a sound change that is not as optimized. I suppose it really depends on what you like as far as sound.

A side note of interest - on the Toyobaru twins the in-cabin sound is so offensive that many owners have plugged or capped the cabin sound tube in that car, or even removed it entirely.

Adding to that, even if you like the exhausts on youtube they're even better in person... Very deep growl and not at all ricey (although I'm sure there are some out there that are).

If I wasn't planning on getting the 'stang, it would be on my car right now.

I like the plain catback. The other two are too raspy for me. But while I think they sound great on the Focus (or the Fiesta), I do NOT want a Mustang that sounds like that. Just me.
