It's certainly something i'd seriously consider if available however it would need to be the same cover as provided by under the original warranty. A lot of the third party warranties exclude so much they're worthless.

As I understand it, Ford extended warranty can only be purchased on the original purchase date of the car. Any extended warranty offered by your dealer at the end of the manufacturers warranty is a 3rd party offering from the dealer only.
which begs the question, why didn't my supplying dealer try to sell me the extended warranty in the first place? they didn't even mention it.

Getting my 1st MoT done at the same time as third service at a dealer (a trusted one); that way any last minute warranty issues can be recorded and dealt with.

My car's three year anniversary is April 9th so I reckon i'm booking it in for its third service towards the end of March. It's front brakes are a little juddery and i'd like them to look at that at the same time but want to leave myself enough time to have them further investigated by an independent before the warranty expires. As its brakes I fully expect to be told there's nothing wrong or its not covered by warranty. Trust in Ford; not likely. It'll get MOT'd by the independent in April.

Or they could just screw you over like my daughter, told her it was not safe to be on road until all discs and pads were replaced , then they could mot it , parts not covered as all service parts ☹

Time flys and all that monty!
I know, I've still got PTSD over spending all that money though.

Were you tempted to take out an extended warranty?
I'm thinking I may do it when it goes in for the Mot and service
Yes, I wanted to do this. Following on from what others have said,

1. Wasn't an option at the time of purchase (or at least didn't appear to be an option).
2. Asked about it at the dealers after a couple of months as it became an option, but was they weren't interested. I was just told to wait until the 3 years is up.
3. Turns out that the 'extended' warranties are not just a case of exteding the manufacturers 36 month warranty. They're generic third party policies which you can pick up off the internet anyway. As has been mentioned, these kinds of things have a really bad reputation and seem to be regarded as another motor trade con (apparently when you try to claim, everything suddenly gets classed as 'wear and tear').

So I just left it.

I wouldn't be suprised if the POS 5-year package was also a local third party add-on rather than being from the manufacturer? If Ford did an extended warranty in-house, why don't they push this (or even mention it) at POS or even offer it later on?

In summary, it seems, one does not simply walk into the dealer and get an extension of the manufacturer warranty.

Per Flood Ford: the Ford extended warranty, now rebranded as Ford Protect, must be purchased within the original vehicles warranty.

This is through Ford, so it will work at all Ford dealerships.

https://www.floodfordesp.com

Pricing from Flood Ford is the best that I've foumd. Check it out, it may be worth it.

Someone somewhere (probably one of the Facebook groups) mentioned taking out an additional two years Ford Protect warranty which apparently covered all the same stuff, however they said there was only one dealership in the UK authorised to provide it. £1200 as I remember. Looking at Ford Protect online it doesn't seem like we would qualify for purchase. The New Car extended warranty can be purchased up to first date of registration (which I assume is before you collect) and we're not buying a used car so that doesn't apply either.

Damn, this is pretty disapointing!
If I was offered an extended warranty, I'd probably have taken it.

You have had some really bad advice from the dealer I'm afraid. https://www.ford.co.uk/owner/my-vehicle/warranties/extended-warranties

Ford protect extended warranty on a new car (TAKEN OUT BEFORE FIRST REGISTRATION) extends the standard 3 year 60,000 mile warranty to 4 or 5 years. It has a few more restrictions on it compared to the first 3 years, but is pretty comprehensive. If you don't take this out then third party warranties (insurance backed) are obviously available.

Obviously none of these warranties cover wear and tear items such as brakes.

Why is that screwing you over? If it needs them then it is perfectly reasonable and of course they are not warranty items.

I had the extended warranty added on to the purchase price for when I picked up my car. It was somewhere in the region of £550 and simply extended the base warranty to 5yr or 100,000 miles.
The salesman knew nothing about it when I enquired and neither would I if I hadn't have seen a thread on here.

Yes, I'd have probably taken it too but as an early purchaser i'm not sure we'd had much discussion on here at the time. No mention from the dealer at all. Similarly they didn't try to push me on wheel/tyre insurance, Diamondbrite, nothing. I thought it was odd but glad not to have had to rebuff the hard sell.
Would have liked the extra two years especially with the oil cooler monkey on our backs
