First mod: Bama tune

I'm running a Bama tune and haven't had any issues.
Never hooked my battery to a tender either. The chances of your battery dying while loading a tune is slim to none. Not saying it can't or wont happen, but it's not likely.

Agreed. I did not hook mine up to a battery tender. No issues whatsoever and the car runs fantastic.

I also always hook it up to a charger/tender when swapping tunes. I've datalogged all of my bama tunes and never had any issues with knock/lean conditions.

Congrats on the new mod. I have used the same tune from Bama on my 2015 5.0 and did have one "known issue" come up when setting the tune. After the tune was complete, the car was started and I received a "P068A" code when I saw the check engine light come on.

After back and forth with Bama, I received the following response:

So I went over this with another calibrator and it seems this is common with the 15's. It is a code that you should be able to just clear and carry on without a problem. You did nothing wrong with the download.

I cleared the code about 5 months ago and have not had any issues with it in the meantime. That being the case, this code might not show up with the tune if there has been any recent updates to the SCT or the Bama tunes, but it is something to keep an eye out and don't freak out like I did.

No Tender here, just made sure battery was charged and just driven. Should load just fine.

Should I be updating my X4 tuner with the computer and download the latest updates prior to tuning the car? I was told the custom tunes are already loaded on the device. Just want to know for sure I'm doing everything right before I hook it up to the stang.

I would update the tuner with your computer to make sure that it is completely up-to-date prior to the tune. The reason being, if you decide to put the tune on the car it is "recommended" to tune the car back to stock, update the X4, and then re-tune. That way if the tuner "bricks" during the update then you don't lose your stock tune information.

Well guys- success!

I couldn't update the xf4 initially because the sct updater would not recognize my device. I couldn't figure out why and so I attempted to tune the car anyway. It's gets to 100% before I'm met with an error code and a prompt to return back to stock which I did successfully. Finally found out that Windows 8.1 has a weird driver issue and after fixing that I was able to update the tuner. The tuner wrote the performance 93 tune to the car and it worked. The tire pressure tpms was not displaying right away but it soon came back. Got a check engine light which I fixed by clearing the DTC code P068A. I waited for the car to idle for a few minutes.

So it was a little bit tough and nerve wracking process but it appears all is good.

Impressions: first thing I noticed was it drove smooth coming out of my neighborhood. It runs smooth at low speeds. No more of that lurching forward or pulling back like it did stock. When I tap the gas with some intent it moves quick and I can feel the tires digging in on the turn. When I opened up to like 50% throttle it just takes off and I shift from 2nd into 3rd and it rreeally pulls. It's like once you hit 3rd... Wow. Unbelievable. It pulls! It's kindve scary because you can get up to some dangerous speeds quick. Dangerous enough to get big tickets lol. At the end I power slided around a curve to go uphill and gave it some gas and it pulls so hard like I wasn't even going uphill. I was up to 70 mph in almost no time flat. Stock, the car would not accelerate like that going up that hill. It would struggle a little bit and throttle left some to be desired. I can feel my mustang wanting to go faster. It's a huge difference, I can feel the added power even though it is very smooth.

The other thing I noticed was that it shifts so smooth now in sport mode (which usually how I drive it). Shift down, shift up doesn't matter, I barely even feel it shift unless I go into a corner and go down into 2nd and I get an abrupt pull back, firm but smooth. It feels like my transmission is working more smoothly. With the stock car, if I'm going 50-60mph and I shift down from 5th to 4th I would get a quick thud. That always has bugged me since I got the car. Now that is completely gone.

It drives and feels very very different. It's like a different car. The engine feels smoother and stronger. Throttle response completely different in a good way. And I can feel more power for sure. With my normal foot, where I would be at 3000 rpm with the stock tune, Im at 4000 rpms by that point. I'm going to have to use these brakes now lol.

Anyway even though I drove it for a short time, I'm very satisfied so far with how it drives. I was a little afraid the drivability would suffer. It's gonna take some time to get used to how smooth the powerband is and just how it drives in general. I didn't even do WOT lol was a little scared to be honest. But I didn't need to to feel a difference. It really feels like it "woke up" the car.

After you've loaded the tune make sure you log the tune and submit them to Bama. I've seen enough of their logs to scare the crap out of me when helping local guys out.

Log the tune?

This means data logging the tune (recording idle, driving, WOT, etc.) and sending the files over to your tuner so they can tweak the tune for your car.

Thanks. Can you please tell me what your battery voltage reads at idle like when you start the car and/or you're at a stoplight idling?

Glad it was sorted out; however, this is related to the flash process and not our actual tunes. The 2015's take a considerable amount of time to "power down" - if the time between key on and key off process is not drastically extended this can/will occur.
