I actually decided to give this a try to get to know my car better and prep myself for HDPEs and track nights etc. But damn... this was fun as hell. Btw a ton of mustangs there. Most were gen 5s. Only other 6g was a 17 ecoboost. Cam c was Camaro heavy. A Hellcat was present as well. After the wife wakes up I am going to verify our travel schedule and if all checks out will be signing up for both phases of EVO school in Lebannon, oh. So will have to stop by at Lebannon Ford while there. That could be dangerous because i might leave with a supercharger.
I recently checked out an Autocross event, riding along as a passenger in 4 different cars. The course we were on had some very tight turns, so the smaller, lighter cars seemed more fun. On that course you really couldn't use the greater power of the Mustangs and Vettes. Overall, though, driver skill was the most important factor.

It was a blast watching the little Miatas zipping though the course. I bet it would be fun to drive one of those through it. The most interesting one to watch was an older, probably mid 90s Honda that was there and looked way too tall to be taking those tight turns. When I say interesting, I mean everytime he cornered hard I was cringing because it looked like he was going to tip over, plus you could hear his suspension banging. I give the guy a lot of credit getting that car through the course.

Man autocross sure sounds fun, till you realize you spend 10 hours in the hot blazing sun picking up cones for a total of 5 minutes of driving time.

Hot blazing sun? Was 32 degrees when we started and maybe high 40s when we ended...But yeah, this summer, I could see it being a bear. 5 minutes of driving time? When I figure out what I am doing it should be closer to 3.5 minutes of driving time, wait... J/k, I had a blast either way. It was also great way to meet a good number of enthusiasts, especially since I am relatively new to the area.

My local SCCA opened registration for novice school for early May and I signed up. Plan to do all the local events this year and will look at EVO for next year.

I completed the STL SCCA Novice Solo school today. What a blast. Much better this go round than the first event. While times were unofficial, i am proud to say no Mopar got a better time than me (that my instructor and I know about). I had a great instructor, Rick Ruth, who apparently has been around SCCA Solo for lil bit. Good guy, learned lots from him and my car did great with the new suspension and shoes.

It's not bad, my chapter does two driving sessions, so you drive and work twice. There's more bullshitting with like minded people than anything else, lol.

I just did my first event in years and it was a lot of fun, getting to learn the car for so cheap (especially the low consumable wear) is nice.

Everyone knows Rick - even if they don't him in person - he's the one that creates / updates Pax indexes for each class - so is universally loved and hated at the same time (seriously though - he's doing am absolute ton of thankless job that currently there is no back for if he decided to ditch it).

Yep. I think I got really lucky having him as a 1 on 1 coach for the day. He had another guy ride with me for 2 runs who was or is an EVO instructor, and he was really good to have in the car as well. Biggest take away from the class is I need to floor it more. I think I can handle that.

Here's a few pics from the event. The (in)famous Mr. Ruth is driving my car in the 1st pic. The others are me behind the wheel.
