My pic is from the web too and was a dark green 1970 Impala with a 350, 4bbl Rochester and that gawdawful vinyl roof. (And the much coveted 8-track quad sound system worth more than the car)

I still regard the Fiero as an under-developed and under-appreciated gem. It's high on my list of "just because" when I think about getting another desirable car. Not close to the early Lotus Elan, but on the same spectrum.
This. Particularly the late examples that finally got the suspension that the car deserved from the beginning....
The back-story is that the brass at Pontiac straight up LIED to the brass at HQ in Detroit that they were developing a low cost 2-seater commuter car. That’s what appeared first in ‘84 as the Fiero 2M4 (2-seat, Mid-engine 4-cylinder). What they were REALLY after was the Fiero GT like in the OP. With a 2.8L V6 and a decent suspension.

Cool thread... Ok so here goes mine:

1986 GT w/T-Tops
Trans: T5
Ext: Factory Jalepena Red
Int: GT gray cloth

Back story:
I bought the car from a friend who was going to drop a 460 into it, but he changed his mind and did it to a Mercury Capri. The 86 GT had a blown engine from racing; so he swapped in another 5.0 and after it was running I bought it so he could fund his 460 project.

Shortly after owning it a year or two, this one guy in our group totaled his brand new 91 GT. Another friend and I bought the wreck and parted it. I bought the A9L, MAF, misc. engine harnesses, complete interior, rear 1/4 glass and Pony’s from it and did my own Fox conversion waaaaaay before anyone was doing it as the majority “norm”.

I had the 91’s electric seats powered, lighted sun visors, etc. all totally functional as if the 86 was built that way. I trimmed the 91 rear 1/4 interior panels to work in the 86 - after all, there was no T-top after 88... and the 91 panels were not T-top specific. I also bought the correct 1991 interior colors; dyed the center console to match the gray interior panels and also dyed the top of the dash and T-top end caps to match the darker color of the 91 A-pillar plastics and to match the upper part of the 91 door panels.

Of course the above means absolutely nothing to you young Mustang folks - BUT in 1991, an 86 GT was only going on 5 model years old AND no one was doing “mash ups” yet with the old vs new Fox bodies... everything at that time period was “new” between the 79-86 vs 87-91’s and internet sucked...

I wanted the 86 to look “Ford stock” from an appearance perspective.

The minimal mods I did to the 86 that can’t be seen:
A9L Mass Air conversion - and again this is when we had to manually pin out the harness from the 86 and make it work with the 91 A9L - there were no quick “A9L conversion harnesses” as those that are available today.

MAC long tube headers w/MAC off-road H-pipe, 2.5” catback w/ Flowmaster 40’s

Pro 5.0 shifter

Ford Motorsport leather shifter boot (extremely rare now)

Steeda rear boxed upper control arms and Hotchkis lower control arms

Heavy duty 3-row radiator

Ford Motorsport underdrive crank pulley (bypassed smog w/ short belt)

3.73 rear

MB Quart front separates (door shell had to be cut so that the speaker would fit in factory “91” location for the 91 door panel to fit properly.)
MB Quart rear speakers in stock location
PPI Art Series amp
Alpine head unit
Monster cable everything

These are the only pics I have of it and they’re paper pics, so they’re not super digitally clear... at time of those pics that car had over 80k on it (it was daily driven 24/7/365 and always looked that clean).

Can anyone help me find it? Last I looked years ago, based on CarFax reports it was in NY... but I have no way of zeroing in on it. I still have the factory build sheet for it... LOL

Let me tell you about my first car.... 1947 Plymouth purchased in 1959 for $50. It was solid, very little rust and those old Plymouths and Dodges from the 40s were bullet-proof and very simple to fix. But, they were slow. The car cost about the same as a 3 speed bicycle and was just about as fast. I only had it for a few months and traded it for a 53 Chevy.

Sorry, no pictures of my 2018 GT... no camera, no smart phone.

AHH.. the good ol t-top days... I wanted the t-top but when I drove an 86 GT in a test drive (I was 18 or really close to it at the time) the back end got out and it spun around and my dear old dad said "oh hell no" and made me take it back to the dealership. I had to wait a while longer before I purchased my first mustang.

O.K......now it's time for everyone to post pictures of their first car, and their current car.

I had a sweet, sweet 1981 Renault Alliance (or as my father called it, an "Appliance"). As Oliveir Panis would ask "What ees thees shit box?"

I had learned the lesson: Don't compose a long post on the forum; do it on an external program and paste it. Just now several minutes of work was sent into space by the Mustang6G site, having lost its handshake with the InterWebs.

My photo of the second-lap mob in Turn One and Turn Two at Riverside International Raceway, California. I have let go astray the next-lap dustup photo made when the leaders tried to go through Turn Two four abreast. These cars at this point on this track would be just about at their top speed and would not let off the throttle until Turn Six.

The races were part of a series sponsored by Ray-NO, for supposedly identical Ally-AWNSes. Often filler races for IMSA weekends. The drivers loved it. Within limits, there was always someone with a similarly capable car to race with.

Even thirty years later the Fiero GT is still a cool looking car. I wanted one in high school. Thirty years ago today I was a sophomore about to turn 16 in two months. I didn't end up getting my first car till I was almost 18 but it was a 1979 RX7 in 1992.

My first car was a 1965 Mustang 2+2 w/ Auto and 289 cu-in engine, I wish I had a picture!!
Since then I've owned '65 Mustang hardtop (that my father bought new in '65), '66 Mustang Hardtop, '69 Mustang hardtop.
Other cars include '68 383 Plymouth Road Runner, '68 AMC Javelin, '68 SS396 Camaro, '79 F150 4x4 short bed, an assortment of Fiat X-19s (you need several to keep one running) and a '86 Fiero V6!
Several Chevy S blazers and many more that are too boring to list.

I wish I had more pictures but even more I wish I still owned all of those '60s muscle cars...

Great list of cars. Honestly wasn’t expecting this one. Still a looker after 30+ years.

Impressive how the Escort didn't change during the entire run. My 87 Mercury Lynx had those same wheels

And tie rod ends on those cars were made of coat hangers. I was not hard on that vehicle from a hitting bumps standpoint, but pretty sure in the 6 years I drove it, I changed tie rod ends 3-4x. And I maybe put 40k-50k miles on it.
