I've been waiting for the 325/30/19s MPS4S tires to come off of backorder before getting them mounted up on the new wheels... but in the meantime, I splurged on another performance mod...so the idea of saving about 25% of the cost on a set of tires is suddenly more appealing.

The Firestone Firehawk Indy 500 is available in the 285/35/19 and 325/30/19 combo that I need. They seem to be pretty well liked and considered to be a good tire for the cost.

Has anyone tried both of these tire models? How much better are the Michelins? What did you notice?

Is there another tire that you would pick over the Firehawks if you wanted to save some cash?

Any thoughts/experiences are welcome.

On the street, I doubt you will notice a difference.

On the track, the Firestones are slower, but also seem to last longer (or longer than the MPSS). And there are better track tires than the PS4S for the same money or less.

The Michelins are good all rounders, but a bit pricey.

They are good for what the are (cheap street tires). They will sacrifice some performance, but unless you're trying to set lap records it doesn't really matter on the street. And if you're trying to set lap records, you wouldn't be looking at either of these tires.

Thanks for all of the input, guys. I think this might be the way to go for me.
They definitely look cool. The tread pattern reminds me of my old RE-11s.

I wonder how the compound of 200 treadwear tire from 8 years ago will compare with this modern 320. I suspect the RE-11s are still a higher performance tire but I am curious to see how close they are.

Firehawks are trash tires especially in the rain. Actually totaled my S197 because of them in a light downpour.

Geez, we are having a similar conversation on another thread. The Indy 500 are anything but trash.

Who cares about your other thread? How many track miles do you have on them? How many other brand tires do you have track time with? Do you even drive your car hard?

Go look at those reviews on tirerack, they're almost all low horsepower cars. Firestone tires are trash compared to Michelin, Bridgestone etc etc. Only cheap asses buy them, look how many high dollar cars are running them. There's a reason for that.

I guess I'm a cheap ass! :D
Before you go throwing around names, go tell the twits on the Porsche forum that you're not a cheap ass with your Mustang. It's all relative.

I ordered up a set...having them installed tomorrow. Thanks to all for the input.

Good for you. Let us know your valued opinion of them when you get a chance.

By the way, don't listen to OnThree. He's just bucking for his second ban!

Will do.

OnThree's opinion is still a worthwhile data point to me but he lost some credibility with the namecalling.

Even buying the "cheaper" tires is still a huge expense in my world and I'm sure it is for many of us. Still, I'm proud of my Mustang and all of the parts and upgrades that I have been able to buy. If someone wants to call me a cheap ass, god bless 'em. They can also go play in the street for all I care. :D

I don't have experience with the current Indy 500 tire, but I did have the previous version on my Mazdaspeed6 back in the day, and I was very pleased with them.

As far as being a cheap ass; far from it. If that were the case, you'd be shopping Ohtsu, Mohawk, or something along those lines. Firestone is still a very reputable brand name. Not that you need the reassurance, but it seems others in this conversation might.

And let's all remember that tires are but one variable - the more highly questionable factor is the bag of meat behind the steering wheel...

Lol, totals car in rain and blames Firehawk tires. I'd blame the driver first before the tires. Running Firehawks here and they do fine for the street.

These Pirelli P Zeros AS were fantastic in the snow/slush. Just another option
