First real problem with my car.

Car has been driving 100% OK until today. This morning it didnt want to start.

After pressing the clutch pedal a few times it eventually spluttered in to life and then behaved fine.

Stopped for fuel on the way home and it played the same trick, except it took about 10 attempts of pressing the clutch.

Got it home, and went to start it again 10 mins later and absolutely no joy.... even after probably 50+ attempts. All electrics etc come on, just no start.

Dutch AAA have been out, and he got it started by pressing the clutch AND the brake pedal at the same time (only if brake pedal is pressed very hard). Using this method it seems to start OK every time.

So im thinking some sort of sensor on the clutch or brake pedal - anyone had similar issues?

Car is a 2016 GTPP manual transmission.

does ur engine start light turn on when u press the clutch? (the little green light) if it has a hard time turning on then yeah i'd say your clutch pedal sensor may be bad.

The green LED remains blinking, it doesnt turn solid green.

A poster in the UK section has proposed that its probably a failed sensor on the clutch pedal.

Once this happens, the computer requires a (sturdy) depression of the brake pedal instead, as a safety logic.

Off to the dealer tomorrow, I think!

there is a known issue with the clutch sensor getting out of alignment... you have 2 sensors....its usually where you have to mash it to the floor for it to start.

Any more info (links) to this known issue.

My Euro dealer will absolutely be clueless on this, im the only Mustang they take care of.

The more info I can go armed with, the better :)

You can break the clutch sensor really easy if you accidentally put your foot up too high under the dash. (I did it)

press the clutch and the brake at the same time and see if she starts

If that works then go under and look at the clutch switch (right behind the clutch pedal) and see if its broke.

Yes it starts with a (sturdy) push of the brake pedal.

If anyone knows the TSB number for the clutch pedal sensor, that would be highly appreciated.

Google doesn't turn up much.

Its fixed!

But a surprising result, and some bad luck!

In the end it was the fault of the GPS tracking / hi-jack system I have on the car.

When I was on the boat (a big metal cage, in hindsight) the system couldnt reach a GPS or GSM signal, so went in to spaz/lockdown mode and immobilised the car (it does this by blocking the clutch pedal signal, so the car wont start)!

Obviously when I was pressing buttons and desperately trying to get the bugger to start, I hit the brake pedal and it sprung in to life.

Thats the unlucky part - the installers hadnt done a Mustang before, and didnt realise the Ford logic, so that needs to be rectified and the brake pedal blocked as well.

.... once I was back to the car today with the emergency magnet (used as a bypass) it fired right up in the normal way. The tracker has since been reset and now it all works as it should again.

Credit to the Ford dealer, they replaced the pedal sensor with the updated version (so future proofed now) and also spent about 2hrs on fault finding, for which I havent been charged. Its gone on warranty.

Hi, I’m having a similar issue. I have a 2015 GT and drive it to a shop to fix a window that has tint on it because it peeled yesterday no problem. Started up like normal. Never had an issue with her. Always started. Car is garage kept and only has 23,000 on it. So they had to move the car into position to start the repair and the guy comes and asks me if I have a kill switch or something on the car. I said no just stock alarm and he says it won’t start. I go out to their work area and go to start it and nothing. Dash still says press clutch to start meanwhile my foot is down on the clutch. They fixed the tint and gave me a rolling start to jump the clutch. Got home and read your post and tried it. Pressed the clutch and brake hard and pressed the start button and it took a few tries but it started. It doesn’t start all the time I do it though it takes a few attempts. Sometimes I get a quarter crank on the motor and other times just enough crank for it to start. I ordered the 2 NSS’s so waiting on them now to be delivered. Did you find out anything more about the situation?
