Has anyone replaced the factory sub with aftermarket sub but used the same enclosure and factory amplifier? What is the ohms of the factory sub and what is the wattage of the factory amp? I was thinking about the kicker 40cwrt 8" sub but unsure if I should get the 1ohm or 2ohm....

Most likely the factory sub is 8 ohms, maybe 4. 2 ohms is very low and .5 will probably set the factory amp on fire. Also the sensitivity level at 84.8 dB is also low. That sub needs a real dedicated amp. I'm also interested in replacing the sub in the factory location.

I'm doing the same but went with Pioneer TS-SW2002D2 (dual 2 ohm) shallow mount subwoofer.

Its been sitting on my desk since I bought the car - just haven't got around to installing it. Also replacing the rear deck and front door speakers with JBL GT0638s and the front door 3 1/2s with JBL GTO328s...wanted to do it all at the same time.

Not lookin for earth shattering bass, just wanted a noticeable improvement over stock bass and clearer mid/highs over stock.

Great question . Let us tear into this thing and find out what the wattage of the Amp can handle and what the ohms this Sub is calibrated for ...I was thinking about this idea for awhile .. I have 2 complete sound stages just sitting around collecting dust and enough install experience to tackle a long technical learning experience ..
We need to locate any and all Diagrams and schematics of this audio system .

My first idea would be to just tap into the subs signal wiring with a LOC and then Amp that signal for a quality duel coil Sub ...Mass is King .......there is certainly enough room back there ... also we would need to sound deaden a bit more ..

I replaced my factory sub with a Rockford Fosgate P3SD2-8 P3SD28 8" 2-Ohm 300W Shallow Mount and the factory amp didn't have enough power to push it.
So I scrapped that Idea and bought a Rockford PBR 300x2, two P1S2-8's and a Ground Shaker box.

So did you just end up changing the sub and enclosure? You kept the stock amp and wiring?

No point in changing out the factory sub without doing the amp as well. The factory sub is probably more efficient than what some people are putting in there making it actually play quiter. Also the factory box may not be the right size for the aftermarket sub which will change qtc alignment and crossover frequency making it bad at blending with the stock system. If you want good bass I recommend replacing all 3. Amp, sub and enclosure.
