Hey guys, (to start I know how to hook up most common stereo upgrades, but the meaning behind the numbers, ohms, rms, etc. I am learning slowly) I snagged a PBR300X2 Amp for dirt cheap. I figured I'd hook it up to my RF Punch 8 sub in the factory sub box for a little extra oomph. I went to go grab the wiring from an audio shop here locally. He tells me I cannot run that Amp to a 2 ohm Punch 8. And that I also cannot tap the rear speakers for an RCA Converter in the Shaker Pro. Yet Crutchfield told me I was good to go on purchasing the Amp and gave me a list of install parts needed to do it. Will this Amp work with my sub? I have also used forscan to change the factory equalizer if that means anything towards this install. Or do I need to get a different amp, like a monoblock RF 300W?

Well, you can run that sub off that amp but only on one channel. It can run 4 ohms bridged but since your sub is the 2 ohm version you’ll likely damage the amp trying to run it bridged. What’s the power rating of the sub?

Also, you may be able to pull signal from the stock sub wiring depending on what year your car is. @Cathul might be able to speak more intelligently to this than I am able.

Ah ok if it’s dual two ohm you can wire it in series and get a 4 ohm final load which you can run bridged on that amp. It’s about a perfect pairing as you can get so I don’t know what that dude was talking about lol. Just gain match it correctly so you’re not overpowering the sub.

If you want to use the stock subwoofer wiring as input to the new amplifier you need to measure the max voltage output of the stock subamp before hooking up the new amplifier to the stock subamp output.
Max input on the Rockford amp is 11 Volts, so if the stock subamp puts out 15V you potentially can overdrive the input on the Rockford amplifier and this will not sound good or even worse, destroy the input stage of the amp due to overvoltage.

I am running all new wiring, tapped off the rear speakers and ran a power wire to the battery

Then you hopefully removed the EQ is ForScan as the rear speakers have a bass roll off.
