Factory Installed Oil Filter Leaked

After 2,000 miles it was time to change the oil. The car is a 2017 model nearly a year old (built post oil line recall) and read 15% oil life remaining. Around 1,200 miles (don't remember exactly) added half a quart of oil thinking the engine was burning some oil since the dipstick was reading low. When removing the trap door to change the oil filter I was surprised to see oil that had leaked from the filter.

I tried to see if the oil filter was loose enough to twist with my hand but it didn't budge. In hindsight I should have used the torque wrench to determine what torque it was measuring.

Going to do some driving and recheck the oil filter torque. Also marked the oil filter and a reference point to see if the oil filter loosens any. Another thought is maybe you should leave the door off to see if the oil filter is leaking. Without removing the door you couldn't tell oil had leaked.

This has me questioning whether some cars aren't burning oil but may have a small oil leak. Then again this could of been just a rare occurrence.

Checking the filter torque would have easily determined what was happening. Beyond that it is only speculation.

Good idea on checking for a leak. Mine burns, I assume, about 1 quart per 750 miles. I am due for a oil change.
