I have a factory order placed for a 2021 GT convertible. Usually I blow off the extended warranty sales pitch on new cars. Unless you're the unlucky person who has some sort of catastrophic failure they aren't worth the money. I did have a 1985 GT that needed tranny work just a couple of hundred miles before the standard warranty limit.

My plan is to nix the extended warranty unless I hear tales of routine, big problems cropping up on the new Mustangs. Comments/suggestions appreciated.

I've had plenty of Fords including mustangs and F150's and never bought the extended warranty.
I have never had a problem. All the problems I had were small and happened in the first year usually. For some reason on this 2019 mustang I bought it to extend it to 72 months.

Can you clarify what is “extended warranty”? Are you talking about the extra service contract your dealer is trying to sell you? (I.e. not something from Ford but a 3rd party)?

If yes, I have a story about that. When we bough 2019 GT earlier this year, it was a used car from Avis. The car seemed OK, but we were kind of anxious since it was our first car whatsoever. So we accepted all extra warranties. (And I still think maybe it was not that bad choice.) However, when we lost the car in an accident, I figured out the contract allows you to cancel the warranty for partial refund.

It's been roughly a month since I'm trying to contact Avis and cancel the damn thing. They're simply not returning my calls, neither responding to email.

Absolute best value.
its The same Ford warranty your dealer will sell you but less than half the cost.
dealer tried telling me over 3 grand for the 100k 8 year plan on my raptor. Flood Ford was 1600 or 1800 can’t remember.
for the mustang I’ll get it if I keep it past3 years as you can purchase it until 41 months or 36k. Wanna say last time I checked the 50 dollar deductible was in the 1200-1400 range for the mustang.
I’ve been out of the regular 3/36 on my raptor for about 6 months and already had my mirror and Panaramic roof replaced under my extended warranty.
it’s already paid for itself.

Pretty much the same for me. Only bought an extended warranty once, on my 1985 Bronco, as it was the first year of the TBI engine. It paid off when I needed the full front axle and differential replaced a few years in. Never needed one on any other car, and never would have recovered the cost on them.

And, for some reason on my 2019 GT, I also extended it, but to 84 months.

Yup. Bought mine from Flood as well.

No need to rush, you can buy an extended warranty direct from Ford https://www.floodfordesp.com any time before the original full factory 3/36 warranty runs out.

A waste of $$ if you don't keep the car that long. I am HOPING to keep my Bullitt, but havent decided on that or the warranty yet.

If I decide I love the car enough to keep over the long haul (Very likely), I will likely buy one, especially if it proves to be problematic or has some issues that undermine my confidence. But I will likely go for the 8/100000 mile package. w/ $100 deductible is $1300 for the Premium. I won't be driving more than 10K a year

I did this on my Jeep Commander, bought a lifetime warranty just before the 3/36 ran out in 2009. $100 deductible for a new trans at 160K miles, water pump and starter at 100K, and rear axle seals at 150K. Was definitely worth it.

When my Tundra hit the 3/36, I decided NOT to buy the warranty as the thing hasn't even needed a light bulb replaced at 55K miles.

Here’s some more info that I posted a while back regarding the ESP’s...

ESP’s (Ford or 3rd Party) is a “sale”, it’s extra $$$ bagged by the Seller (Ford and it’s Dealership Sales Team) and most consumers just don’t read what is being offered for the $$$. They just hear “extended warranty” and think the plan starts AFTER the 3/36 and 5/60 expires, not true.

—-

I have an extended warranty (Up to 120k miles) that was offered through my Credit Union. It’s a Nationwide Warranty accepted by Ford and many other vehicle manufacturers. It offers the same coverage as the Ford ESP’s with same deductibles.

The only reason I opted for it is because:
1) My weekly distance traveled is 500mi, excluding any weekend driving.
2) I expect to own the vehicle longer than 5 years.

Why the above two facts matter most:
1) I’ll have burned through the factory 3/36 faster than most.
2) If owning the car longer than 5 years, I’ll have also burned up the factory 5/60 Powertrain Warranty.

At that point, I’ll still have a buffer after the 60k (2/60) to cover any possible issues (if any).

So for ME (and folks in a similar position), an extended warranty is well worth the money. For folks who mothball their vehicles or barely use them, an extended warranty is pointless, as that type of owner may not ever use or kill the warranty with accrued miles, but by the time something does fail on their ride, the “years” part of the warranty would have expired far sooner than accrued miles...

Another thing to know (most don’t):
A) The factory 5/60 Powertrain covers the engine, trans and the rear. If you read the actual coverage, it’s a very good comprehensive warranty EVEN AFTER the 3/36 has expired.

B) As previously mentioned, the Ford ESP (and most others) run concurrently with the factory 3/36 and 5/60. Meaning, if you have an ESP and the vehicle is still under the 3/36 OR 5/60, the factory warranty takes precedence over the ESP. So think of it this way, if a person buys a 7/75k ESP, in the end they’re really only buying a 2/15.... is that money well spent? NO... because 2 years or 15k after the 5/60 will be zapped pretty quickly.

C) With B above in mind, if buying an ESP (be it Ford or any 3rd party), if you’re going to keep the car longer than 5 years, opt for the longest term ESP. I think the longest term avail currently through Ford is the 8/150k... Essentially again, you would be buying a 3/90, since the ESP would kick in AFTER the 5/60 expired.

Gotta watch what is being sold to you regarding any ESP. Also it’s not what is covered in those plans, it what is NOT covered, so read ALL of the FINE PRINT. Many people think because they bought an ESP, they’re free and clear of owing any $$$ for a so called “warranty” repair.... then get whammied with a repair bill because their ESP didn’t cover certain parts or labor that was outlined in the fine print.

I cant believe how expensive some of the parts on this car cost. I needed a new driver side taillight assembly, its about 600 on the internet, about 900 at the dealer. It forced me to buy an aftermarket set for 500. I bought the Flood ford esp prem plan for 8/48 (we only put about 5K miles on ours per year) for about a grand, and it includes free rental car and no deductible. I do all my own work on my cars, when possible, but when my drivers seat heater failed, there are a lot of diff components in there, and you cant troubleshoot these like you can an old muscle car, so I took it in. No problems with my dealer or the warranty... If you do buy it, consider the lighting option, such as the taillights.
