Hello everybody, I have a 2019 Ford Mustang GT, with about 84,000 miles. I bought the car about 10,000 miles ago from a used car dealership. I am a newly full certified Ford technician with about 1.5 years of experience. Shortly after purchasing the car, I did all the necessary maintenance such as an oil change, transmission fluid flush, coolant exchange, etc. About a month and a half ago, I decided to do a multi-point inspection on my car as I like to keep up with the maintenance of my vehicle. I checked the dipstick and there was no oil on it whatsoever, at that time it has been around 3,800 miles since my last oil change, I decided to add oil until it was topped off on the dipstick and it had lost almost 4 quarts of oil over 3,800 miles. I work at a Ford dealership and have access to all the diagnostic software and a lift. So I immediately put the vehicle into the air and checked for any leaks on the underbody and to my surprise there were not any leaks, so the only cause I could think of was excessive oil consumption. My motor is completely stock except for an oil catch can I had installed when I first got the car. I know that there was a TSB for the 2019 F150s with excessive oil consumption on the 5.0s that reprogrammed the PCM, I have looked and there is no TSB for the Mustangs. I am aware that these 5.0s are prone to oil consumption but I was wondering if anyone else has had or seen oil consumption this bad, I would love to hear any information that you guys may have that could help me fix my issue. Thank you.

I would expect to see smoke out of the tailpipe if the motor were ingesting that much oil

1- Do a compression check
2- Make sure the PCV valve is functioning properly.
3- Remove the intake pipe from the throttle body and scope the intake manifold, looking for excessive oil

Are you sure you put 10 quarts in it when you did the initial oil change?

Thank you so much for the feedback! I’ll try everything you’ve suggested. And yes I put in 10 quarts of full synthetic 5w20.

Any signs that the previous owner may have had a blower or turbo on it?

Another thing that can happen, is if the previous owner neglected oil changes, and the oil rings on the pistons are gummed up or stuck. Again though, if the engine was consuming 4 qts of oil in 3800 miles, you would probably see smoke out of the exhaust.

There’s no signs of any previous modifications, engine looks completely stock. I have looked at the service history on CarFax and it looks like the vehicle was maintained well. I’ll try everything you’ve previously suggested and hopefully that will point me in the right direction.

Do the tailpipes have any oily residue buildup in them that you can see that would indicate excess oil is being burned. How much oil is in the catch can?

Oil Sample, and try Valvoline 5W-30 Restore and Protect. My Brothers 100% stock F150 (All Highway) consumed oil, he switched to the Valvoline and consumption dropped dramatically.
