This is merely an FYI for anyone owning a 2018 F150 5.0.

TSB 19-2058
Excessive Oil Consumption

——
This TSB does NOT apply to the 2018 S550 5.0.
——

Just passing it along because I know there are some F150 Owners here too.

Cobra, is there any way to know if there is an updated block since the 18`s came out?

Lol, replace the long block. If that's not an indicator of an issue with these engines I don't know what is.

How else do you suggest they fix excess oil consumption?

I'm more saying the fact that there is even a TSB for this shows they have more than a handful of bad engines driving around out there.
Gotcha. You'd be surpised if you google a brand an oil consumption how often this occurs.

Yep ... probably means the engine has probably ate itself up and metal debris has damaged other parts of the engine. If it was just say the rings or cylinders being bad they would say replace just the short block only. I didn't see anything in the TSB to check for metal debris for instance in the oil filter to determine level of engine damage.

Steps 11 & 12 in the TSB are pretty surprising. Ford says to replace the long block if the oil consumption is more than 1 qt every 3000 miles. I was expecting to read more than 1 qt every 1000 miles like most car manufacturers state.

The wording in Step 11 could be better IMO, but it basically means if it burns more than 1 qt in 3000 or less miles to replace the long block.

Well this will be interesting for sure...My '18 GT is undergoing an oil consumption test right now. Dipstick marked and to return every 500 miles or so for a quick check. Yes, very interesting...

my first ticking coyote was eating 1 qt per 1000-1500 depending on driving style.

i wasn't happy, but kept in mind that general 1qt/1000 guideline and did not complain. tick bothered me more than that.

because of the tick they only replaced short block.

but maybe this is only gen3 thing. i have gen2.

I wonder how it could only apply to f150 and not to stangs

Likely due to the Mustang being a 'Performance' car, which typically has expected trade-offs. Many other manufacturers do the same, more forgiving of oil use and engine noise...

Maybe it is because a truck engine works harder more often? If you are hauling heavy waits and towing, that will put more pressure than a car you WOT once in a while. Obviously if you track or drag your car often, it could put similar pressure on the engine. If this is true, they have most likely seen many more trucks with oil consumption issues than Mustangs coming in. If enough Mustangs have this issue I would hope they would announce a similar TSB for them.
