Exactly

This first one happened to my old club member in front of his house.
Neither of these are in high crime areas. Like I said let these people think that Windows are a safety barrier from criminals. It's actually the opposite because they know you don't lock your stuff up inside
Damn, that's messed up! :tsk:

I've seen this before, right here in My Apartment Complex. This probably wasn't someone stealing the wheels though, it was probably someone Behind on their Payments to Rent-A-Rim or Rent-N-Roll for their 22, 24, or 26 inch Wheels. I've seen them reposessing the wheels. They will leave your shit high and dry like this.
Haha, this made me laugh hard until I googled it and found out it's real.

So, it seems that all these POS cars I see around here with wheels that are worth more than the car probably didn't even really buy them outright, they used a crazy company that preys on the financially weak minded.

This explains a lot that I have pondered in the past. :p

On the topic, I got the security package due to what others said, it's a cheap option for what you get. At least in my opinion.

Yea first time I saw the place was in college. I got a pretty good laugh out of the fact that such a thing existed... Then i realized where they were located: right behind the HBCU between it and Walmart... Short after that realization I understood how they stayed in business :frusty:

This is of course a guess on my part, (due to FORD'S lack of transparency about what exactly is car is equiped with).

Most of todays new vehicle's have what is called a valet key, meaning you should be able to keep some things locked up in the car while you're out to dinner say...and you don't want to have to empty the center console of all it's contents so that the kid parking it won't be able to rilfle through your personals.

I don't think that it's meant to prevent the guy that just broke your window from being able to not get into the, (I use the term loosly) Lockable glove box.

Also, one video I saw recently somewhere on the forum showed what I thought was a seperate smaller lockable area inside of the glove box. ???

For the perimeter and interior motion detectors.. I would be happy with it and the wheel locks.... for the likes of it I can't imagine why someone would leave their top down going into the store even if it is a quickie... the security package would be beneficial for that but around here... plenty of birds and sea gulls seem to go on bombing runs
Plenty of people I know with convertibles learned real quick to leave there top down or doors unlocked when they had a convertible. It's much quicker and quieter to make one cut in a soft top than it is to break a window; I don't live where there is much crime, but convertibles make it too easy and I've seen it too much...

I seem to remember that that was to store the owners manual. I didn't think it was lockable...

It's not lockable - just a separate, recessed, area specifically for the owner's manual. It's meant to give you more space for your own things that you want to keep in the glove box.

This is SOOOOO true.

Way back, I had a new 1988 GT Convertible and it took me 4 top replacements to learn that lesson. Each time the max loss was maybe $80 (sunglasses). I started parking it with the windows down when the weather was nice and I would still leave small items in the car. Never lost anything else again, I guess they expect nothing in an open car and don't bother.

This car was what made me vow to never buy another convertible unless it was going to be like my Corvettes, something I don't have to park in public for long periods of time.

Criminal mindset. If i crash the window i grab what is within reach and run they are in and out in less than a minute. No one is going to sit there prying at a lock.

Hence why no one forces open locked glove boxes or trunks but why would I know that.
I guess your criminals are amateurs because in the DC area I've had multiple friends have their cars broken into and the thieves got around the security system with the car by simply popping the locks and getting everything in their cars. The locked console wouldn't have stopped them.

Now the wheel locks are a completely worth it

Everything is just a deterrent. Wheel locks are actually very easy to overcome with the right tools, even the spline-key types where every lug nut is "keyed". The right impact socket on a ratchet and a small sledge hammer is all they need to get past the $40 locks.

That is, if you leave the car somewhere that someone (anyone) won't see it or care. Where I live and where I park people are generally decent and would say something if someone rolled up and broke in. Now, parking in an alley in a seedy location, I would expect to come out to the car stripped and being used as a hobo bathroom. ;) For example, I'd never park one of my cars in Oakland, even in front of the police station. I've seen police there turn their heads to ignore people running stop signs and speeding.

Now the wheel locks are a completely worth it but you could get those after market.

Look where I live....but like I said I guess you have a more direct interaction with criminals so I must not know what I'm talking about...if you're speaking directly about DC then yeah that's a special bunch they will sit there and strip the car. Just admit the electronic locks are a deterrent and not useless like you said...you can't always be right.

No the rims were not a repossession. They were the factory OEM chrome clad rims that a group was going around targeting. I found them on craigslist trying to sell the rims for 600 for the set. A sting was set up and 20 sets of stolen rims were found and 6 motorcycles. The cars were left sitting on the frames onto planters bricks. Ford Fusions with 20" are also high targets.

Glad I could help. I trust no one. To many people wear rose colored glasses and that's who criminals target.

personally I dont care for convertibles.... too much wind noise, the interior is not protected, there is a higher insurance premium and the tops tend to fade over time especially where the sun shines alot. Road grime is another concern... Dusty environments and construction areas suck especially when there is concrete cutting
