I agree with the noise being valve train related. It would be interesting to see the cam advance. There feels like there is a slight power dip around 3000-3200, and then 3300 on feels like VTEC kicked in. (Need the meme here.)

Idle is mostly smooth, but you can feel the vibration if you're holding the wheel.

LMAO! My s2k feels like a little slug now but hitting VTEC at 6200 rpm is always a blast!

yep that's what mine sounds like (mainly when cold), still present but quieter once it's warmed up.

I figure it is valvetrain noise.... and I also think of Rogue's quote ("All I hear is Jesus") :)

Nothing but normal exhaust in that clip, the rattle or piston slap only happens under light load not when revving.

I thought the sound was hard to miss in that clip. I definitely hear some "different" noise there and it's not exhaust.

Only irregular noise I hear is the guys hand on the plastic sheath around the steering wheel.

Do you hear it in the normal or sport exhaust mode?

I hear it too. I have the same sound in my car. There is a light rattle that does go away after the car warms up. It is heard only under light loads and when the car is not warmed up.

My car used to do it only when cold. It now has 2200 miles and does it all the time under VERY light throttle just maintaining highway speeds or cruising.

I am bringing the car up to VIR in April and some guys from Ford will be checking it out to see if its normal. I will update with the results of that when i get back.

This is certainly not what's happening with mine.
Easiest way to hear it...
Start the engine in the morning and head down your driveway or the street and VERY gradually ease into the throttle. No lugging at all. You're VERY carefully ease the throttle further, it will keep rattling until about 3000rpm.

As it warms up, you will see the start of the rattling rpm move up until it's probably at 2500 or so, but it is always there. Even with the the motor warmed up and having driven 40 miles.

I use my car to commute to work.

A slight increase in throttle will make it go away, a slight decrease in throttle will make it go away. I can make it rattle at will.

FWIW,
Kirby
This discription sounds very much like gear rattle related to a light weight flywheel(LWFW). Of course this will only happen when driving with light throttle. Annoying, but not harmful. Those clips sound like normal valvetrain noises.

I'll disagree with you on the normal valvetrain noises thing but you bring up a good point - It would be nice to hear one rev from idle like this, with and without the clutch engaged, to see if there is a difference.

I can tell you that mine does it with and without the clutch engaged. Almost never while the car is still though. If I'm driving in say 3rd gear and I'm in the affected rev range, I can engage and disengage the clutch and as long as i keep on the gas a little, the sound is there.

That would be awesome, thanks! Please ask them for a full explanation if they say it's nothing to worry about.
