I noticed a rattle this morning as well, not sure if it the same as what others are hearing.

In my case, the noise would occur at lower RPM (1500-2500) when the car was at "maintenance throttle". By that, I mean when there was essentially no load on the drivetrain. I noticed the sound on every shift, as I transitioned from being off throttle during the shift, to getting back on the throttle. The more slowly I applied the throttle, the longer the noise would last. The rattle would last as long as I could maintain essentially no load on the drivetrain.

IMO, the sound is the dual-mass flywheel vibrating between its limits when unloaded. you get the slight rattle as it moves back and forth against the stops. Once the drivetrain is loaded (either with acceleration or engine braking) the flywheel is no longer able to rattle.

I'll pay more attention as I drive to see if I continue to notice the sound, but because I first noticed it every time I shifted I'm pretty sure its related to the flywheel/clutch and not anything in the engine.

My car has 2500 miles now, and I will be getting my first oil change and baseline dyno on Friday. We'll see if the oil change makes any difference in the sounds.

Slight rattle on mine too... around I say 1800-2500 rpm under light steady load but I perceive it as minor because it's not very loud but it's there. And it's noticeable after a cold start... usually when I drive out from my residence. It almost sounds like the hood prop rattling... doubt it though. Hmmm, this sound is supposed to be normal? I figured it was/is normal... but I guess I'll have it checked out just in case. Who knows at this point.

Wheeeee!
Oil change doesn't affect it. I've changed the oil twice on mine now and it's the same.

Someone who is having the noise (like so many noises, we aren't even sure we're talking about the same thing)... Try letting your car warm up completely before driving off and see if it is still there.

I've got it too. Only about 400 miles on mine.
- It is definitely more noticeable when it is cold outside and when the engine is first started up.
- Does not seem to be there at idle.
- It seems to occur in the 1500-3000 RPM range, with light throttle and it does get quieter as the engine/oil warms up.
- Seems to be minimized when the oil gets to 170F or above.
- It also does seem to go away with heavier throttle but I need to experiment with this more.

This morning i let the car idle for 3 or 4 minutes before driving and it was much less.

Its probably not relevant, but the closest thing I can think of to describe it ... I had an Acura engine that made a similar noise when it was cold and would go away as it warmed up. I have also heard it in other people's Honda motors as well (although not a huge sample size). it used to drive me crazy, but that motor never had any issues..........

In addition to the symptoms noted above, I found via experimentation that the same vibration noise can also occur in neutral while coasting and feathering the throttle in the approximate 1800-2300 RPM range.

In my much-missed Mazda - a few rattles existed when it was cold out and went away in warmer weather. Plastics and rubber get hard so it's hard to tell what it really is.. That said, many of these descriptions sound like piston slap, which probably sounds worse than it is. Just another good reason (maybe the best reason) to warm the car up before driving or to at least keep out of the gas for a bit.

Hey Bossing, described what I am hearing exactly....I think we are in the same area...what dealership are you taking it to? I was thinking of taking mine in as well for this issue and some minor panel adjustments. I have a Fusion and have not had great experience with Mulinax on Copans...Maybe we could meet for coffee somewhere and see if the symptom is the same. I be going to PBIR for first track day this Sunday (2/14). You can reach me at 9-540-6878..John

I had mine checked out for precautionary measures. Ford has a protocol to follow for this type of issue and good news according to them is that slight rattling sound is normal. The reason I was told is it's a piston slap due to the short piston skirt design. They also have a new GT350 in the showroom and they compared it... and it had the same minor sound.

I spoke with the shop foreman when I picked my car up a little while ago and explained this to me. If some of you guys are still unsure just do the same as what I did.... have it checked at the dealer. The FSE's will be in touch with your dealer tech and should also go thru the same step by step process.

Hi Bossing thanks for having them check this out! Did they have the car cool down completely when they diagnosed it?

I am glad this is considered normal (assuming we all are talking about the same thing) :-)

For me it would be tough as the dealer is 90 miles away so I would likely have to let it cool overnight or several hours at least
