If it's in warranty and something puts a hole in the oil pan I'm letting the engine run till it locks up. I want no excuses for not getting a new engine.

I feel your pain, I bought my 19gt brand new. After having it for 2 weeks I just randomly checked my fluids. Found out I had hardly any oil in it. Just the tip of the stick was wet. I coulda been in your shoes, I found out the coyote eats oil more than normal. I now check my oil once a week. I just got a Paxton which I’m having installed next week. Once that’s in it’ll probably burn oil much faster. You should keep an eye on the oil in these cars or you can blow a gasket or crack the block.

I didn t say I was OK with it , I was saying that is the rule I know here in NY. To a lesser extent even a dented fender can be claimed on your insurance if done by the last owner ? Not saying we should do this , I m saying the insurance company has to protect from this sort of thing.
Maybe it depends on insurance company?? I don t know.
When buying used you should have to get it inspected for previous damage. This whole thing is probably a moot point I only brought it up before cause the insurance company had me a bit rattled. I used to do quite a bit of work for this company and as far as companies go there's only 2 I know of that are better and they are exceptional companies. Here's a point for having those inspections in the 90s I saw the same olds cutlass ciera in 3 different shops in Brooklyn with the same damage and same Vin numbers talk about fraudulent claims. Only in New York.

Full coverage you have to have in order to get a loan. They claim they requested that I get the car inspected they sent me a letter a year after I took delivery of the car. If they sent it, it should have been registered mail. They have to give written notification if they are canceling any part of your policy
Yeah that's something highly illegal if they cancel part of your policy, don't tell you about it, keep charging you for the full coverage and then deny a claim due to not having sufficient coverage.

If that's the case, I would get with a lawyer real quick.

You hit something that punctured the oil pan. You pulled over quickly (So you say right?). You don't need an engine. You need an oil pan R+R I bet. Unless you drove it like 3-5 miles without oil.

This is just a typical debris "collision" on your insurance, and they will pay if you indeed carry collision coverage.

Pulled over after quarter mile at most and most of the oil leaked out while I was shut down. I really don't think I drove long enough to do any damage. But the shop claims I did damage the motor. They're telling me that they can put in a oil pan and I will soon need a motor and at that point the insurance company will not pay. So they are saying it's best to make a claim now. I didn't hear anything bad and just as I pulled over after about 30 seconds the oil light came on.

So they pulled the top end off? Pulled the main caps? Did a compression check etc?????

sounds like a rush to judgment by dealer then. My wife once bottomed out a car and crushed filter and drove home several minutes and miles. It was knocking like crazy, oil light was on, engine was empty of oil. I cleaned everything up, put new filter and oil and it quieted down after running a few mins and never had an issue after.

If the insurance company looks at the car they decide it only needs a oil pan and the motor goes on it later they will pay it on a supplement. The transmission pan is also damaged so that may also be an issue. If I was the adjuster I may have handled it that way. I would only do it that way to protect my job. So if the company decides to do it that way I would understand why they were doing it. I wouldn't be happy but I would understand also could have my own dealer r&r a new motor.

I don't think they did anything. I think they just want to do a long block on it.

I agree with you. If the insurance company decides to do that it would be doing the right thing and if the motor goes later they can replace it on a supplement. It would be inconvenient but it would be on their dime not mine. So that's why I'm reporting it

If you had let it blow there would not be any question on how to fix it.
