Spent last two days researching how to upgrade from Base Ecoboost to Base GT Brakes. Searched many a thread and cannot find precise response. Contacted Levittown, American Muscle, and dealership where my FP tune was installed and none were exactly sure (need vin number of a GT, not sure if the calipers will bolt on, etc...). For something many said is easy, having the hardest time finding out how to proceed.

Can anyone tell me the part numbers I will need? Again just going from base ecoboost to base GT brakes (rotors, calipers and pads). Also let me know if there are any other parts I should consider. Thanks!

I bought a set of front GT brakes from another member here. It was a direct bolt on swap, easy peasy. Just get the rotors calipers and pads, swap 'em out, then bleed the lines. Piece of cake.

Don't know about the backs.

You can also get them from Shelby on Ebay...that was the route that I took. Had them and Steeda stainless brake lines installed great feel.

I'm looking to do the same upgrade (Ecoboost base -> GT base brakes).

I just purchased a set from Shelby on Ebay.

Does anyone know if I need to get different dust covers?

If so, what part numbers?

Thanks!

Nope, the rotors and calipers bolt right up. It really is as easy as it sounds. The only slightly challenging part is bleeding the system.

Next question:

Has anyone upgraded to the rear GT brakes?

I know the only difference is the rotors are vented (with wider caliper to compensate)?

Any issues?

I've changed the rear, they are slightly bigger calipers to accommodate for the larger diameter vented rotors like mentioned above.

The hand brake line though is a pain in the ass to release without a special tool, not impossible but it took me and a friend a couple hours just figuring out how to release it, and then the trying to put it on the new calipers is slightly easier but still hard. I'd not tackle this job without a quality vice-grip locking c-clamp.

Glad to answer any further questions.

I'm sorry for reviving this thread but if you upgrade the front to gt brake calipers on an ecoboost do you need to upgrade the rear as well or can you just do the front?

Do they need to be oem rotors or can I use aftermarket 15" rotors?
Do not use 15" rotors on the back of your car, please, lest you want to end up spun in a ditch the first time you apply some force.

You can fit the 15" front brembos if you have wheels that fit them. The stock GT/GT PP rears are 12.6". And yes I would upgrade both to preserve good brake bias.

Oh that'd be bad, but thank you! I appreciate your help!

I did just the fronts for nearly a year before finally finding the rears to match. That included two HPDE events. It worked fine, but I am sure I have better balance now with the rears installed too.
